I would believe that the XPR-5 will replace the XPA-5, means the XPR line will replace the XPA line. I think it would not make sense to have two X.. lines at the same time.

My understanding (which could be very faulty) is that Emotiva is replacing the old U-Series amps with lower powered, but usually well built and musical pieces. The models will be designated with the new 3-digit nomenclatures. E.g., the old UPA-2 will be the UPA-200.
The X-Series amps will remain the same with the addition of the promised XPA-7. The U-Series and the X-Series will continue to share the same face plates. Pricing and power between these 2 series will be more distinctive.
The Reference (R-Series) is an entirely new line with different face plates and finish and much steeper pricing.

The XPA-1 is the only Differential Reference amplifier in the line for now. It is designed to complement our other Differential Reference components, such as the ERC-2, the the XSP-1,etc. All of these components features truly balanced circuit topologies (not just balanced connectors). We are working on a baby brother for the XPA-1 but it's not something to think about until next year.
Now as far as lines are concerned, the XPA Series is not being replaced by the XPR series. They are two distinct lines.
X is our core line. This is the heart and soul of Emotiva. It will also be our largest line of products.
Ultra is our value line, designed to bring high performance audio to you at prices that make great sound affordable to anyone.
X Reference is our "no holds barred line", and as a general rule, it will all also feature very high power amplifiers! (You can never have too much power) It is the designed to be the biggest and the baddest. We'll put XPR up against anything out there.
There are no plans at present for an XPA-700, however we are working on an new XPA-7, as has been previously noted elsewhere.

Mr. Dan,
I thank you too for your explanation for I'm a "differential reference" kinda guy..
Next is the XSP-1 for sure of which I (and others) been waiting for....
And then the XDA-2 for consideration to upgrade from the XDA-1, although when used in conjunction with the XSP-1, I'd like to see a fixed analog output option on the back of the XDA-2.

Hope this helps, Cheers, Dan My take on this is that while the XPR series of amplifiers will be more powerful than both U and X series, the XPR series will not be differentially balanced nor will the XPR amps sonic's improve on, specifically, the XPA1. To many, myself included, it is a seemingly odd contradiction to claim 'reference,' 'no holds barred,' and not use balanced circuit topology. This in no way a complaint, only an observation. I will attach furniture sliders to the 2 back legs, raise the back just 10" into the cabinet, then lift the front and slide it backwards into the cabinet. I will never (hopefully) need to move it again ;D |

Do you have any idea how heavy one of those 3.3K transformers are -- compared with the 1.2K transformer of the XPA-5. I am afraid that many customers will need to buy new, heavier built equipment shelving to accommodate the increased weight. Another issue is going to be providing dedicated electrical service for the XPR line. Details, details.... ;D ;D |

Mine is smart enough to back into the driveway usually, but when he delivered my XPA-2 he thought it would be a good idea to just park across our very wide street and run it over through traffic and up my porch. When he made it to the door he just looked at me and said to me with his Jamaican accent, "That was stupid".
It would be comical to see it with the XPR's. I can definitely imagine the weight...After the military and before I returned to school, I used to service RF plasma generators before moving on to large refrigerator sized (800kW) generators used for industrial induction heating. Those had rather large transformers ;D

UPA-1 is discontinued So hierarchy will be: XPR-1 XPA-1 XPA-100 UPA-100 Not necessarily. Didn't Dan and Lonnie say that the XPA-1 will still be the SQ champ in the lineup? I'm sure there will be some people that say the XPR-1 sounds better, but some will also say that the XPA-1 is better. Much like the RPA-2 vs XPA-2. Yes. That is what both told me on multiple separate occasions. The XPR line has enhanced appearance and more power than the XPA line. However, the XPA-1s will remain the SQ champs for at least a little while longer. |
