Just curious if the XPA-5 is supposed to have a noticeable hum, curiosity comes as my UPA-1's and UPA-500 never had this.

I can tell you my XPA-5 has a very, very slight hum from within the unit. It is only noticeable if you are within a foot or so of it.

Cool yeah that's what I was assuming just never noticed it on my other amps so was a little concerned all though it sounds fine, maybe it's just the huge ass transformer it has lol.

HA! @rlw Creimes..................I think the protective film thingy is contributing to your hum

You have to be right up to it and no power conditioner as I know it's not the circuit as my UPA-1's were fine. I have 2 dedicated 15amp circuits for my gear and it's not causing any issues in the sound.

My XPA-5 is absolutely dead-nuts quiet. And output to the speakers is similarly noise-free - there is absolutely no hiss whatsoever between tracks of a CD and such even if I crank the volume up to insane levels.
I am really starting to love this amp. And the deal Big Dan offered me was just too good to pass up - thanks BD!! The only things left to add to my system are a Velodyne DD Series subwoof and the XMC-1. After that, I will just sit back and dig it for the next 10 years...

Hmmm, daughter is watching The Lorax so I went over and muted the volume and I have hum/buzzing but I have to have my ear right at the speaker itself I can't hear it otherwise

You should not have any hum/buzzing at the speaker. Hiss, possibly. If you have a hum at the speakers, you should look to problems with your system's grounding. What you are hearing is quite possibly a 60Hz hum. If you have a cable box, try disconnecting that and see if it eliminates the hum. You can also try simply reversing the connection of the amp's power cable into the wall outlet.
If you have a buzzing sound, that is usually indicative of a loose speaker driver or a mis-aligned speaker cone or voice coil...

Strange as it never had this with my 2 UPA-1's, it's noticeable at my couch when RSP-2 is connected to XPA-5

If you are hearing a hum from the power amp's chassis you likely have one of two problems. DC offset will cause the transformer to vibrate. The CMX-2 will filter the DC contamination out and silence the hum coming from the amp. The other cause of humming noise coming from a power amp is vibrations from resonant frequencies. The cure for this problem is to decouple the amp from the shelf it is sitting on. Anti-vibration feet like Isonodes and Sorbothane are very effective. A link to a sample of these feet can be found below. www.amazon.com/dp/B0018BLBSU/ref=asc_df_B0018BLBSU2403906?smid=A34VCPZVL7E6XQ&tag=dealtmp814733-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B0018BLBSUSometimes moving the amp to a different shelf may be required to decouple it enough to offset the resonant frequenies causing the issue.

I had hum from my speakers, which was cured by a form of star grounding. I have my XPA-5 and Ultra Sub 12 plugged into a CMX-2, so no DC offset.
I believe mine is caused by vibration/resonant frequencies of the audio rack it is in, as roadrunner stated. Eventually I will look into some form of isolation for it, but you really have to be within a foot of mine to even hear it, so it's not a problem for now.
