Guys,I'm sorry to hear of your bad experiences with airgas1998.One mishap could be chalked up to ignorance of how to ship items, particularly large and heavy items but the second time around there really should be no excuse because you should have learned from your mistakes the first time.
The even bigger offense here in my opinion is the obvious contempt and avoidance of both buyers after the deal had been done. There really isn't any excuse for that.
Given the pattern here I would have to say that airgass1998 is not a very good person.I'm relatively new here myself and it really isn't my place to say but IMHO airgas1998 should be invited to leave.
interspy24 I sincerely wish you good luck with the Paypal claim and given the circumstances and my experience with Paypal I fully expect that they will rule in your favor.

I'm in complete agreement. Imo it is understandable to not correctly pack an item, but there is no excuse for the avoidance of multiple pm's and emails. It also agree with your second point, it's not my place to say but a goodbye ticket wouldn't be a bad thing. The reason for me making this thread was to warn others. I'm glad I did and hope others on the board avoid him in the future.

I'm sad to say I had the same bad experience with airgas1998. Item was very poorly packaged and arrived in not-so-good condition. I also haven't heard from him even after sending a couple of PM's. :(

Sad end to a nice AVR and those pics bring a tear to my eye.

I'm sorry this happened to interspy and my Brotha!

There really is no excuse for it to have happened once but twice. Possibly naivety the first time but just laziness and stupidity the second. I mean how much gray matter does it take to figure out that an improperly pack 50lbs AVR won't survive the trip. ::) Unless you are a complete loser that is and yes airgas1998 I put you in this category. IMO He should be banned from this forum especially after two incidents and no effort to remedy the situation.

Completely agree. A blu-ray player I can see not having enough protection and/or packing. It's possible to use another box of the similar size (i.e. a console box and then heavily pack the item). Maybe more foam/bubble wrap could have been used, but a 50lbs receiver is going to move, a lot. Frankly I'm surprised it didn't fall out of the box. In order for UPS to pick it up, I had to duct tape the top and bottom of the box. Normal tape then duct tape to hold everything together!

I really feel bad for the buyer, I hope something good does happen with your claim.I bought an avr once on ebay, it arrived loose in a box, naturally corners banged up etc..It was packed poorly so I did not pursue ups.I did get paypal to get me back $50 as it still worked, sold it to my neighbor cause he loved the sound and came out even.It still sucked but only cost a big headache and I learned a lesson. Good Luck.

Update as of 11/10: Paypal stated to send the item back to the scammer/seller aka airgas1998..

I'm a bit worried as what will happen next because I had filed a claim with UPS over a month ago. They picked up the package on 10/11 and were looking into the damages and the claim. However, since I am the recipient and not the payer/shipper, I am not able to see and/or know the status of the claim.

I hope paypal understands this and is still able to refund me purchase amount. If anyone has advice on what to do it at this time it would be appreciated, thanks.

One other item to note - I was contacted by a member who had dealt with airgas1998. He stated that the seller, airgas1998 knew about the problems but was waiting for the results. He has still not logged on as of October 14, but I'm wondering if he's created another account and/or what's going on. He was still trying to sell an item to another member... I hope he's banned from this board as multiple members have had complaints about him.

Update: Paypal has refunded me! I'm glad they "ruled" in my favor, and at the same time I believe I had more than enough evidence on my side.

I also want to say thanks again to the board for their advice in this situation. A special thanks to dcg44s for his time and advice on what to do and possible challenges I might have faced. I hope there was a lesson learned in terms of the shipping and also documentation if something does go wrong. Thanks and everyone enjoy the weekend.

I am glad that you got your money back even though it took you 45 days to finally resolve this. airgas1998 if you are reading this, and it looks like you are, you are a real scum bag for doing this, especially during these trying times. interspy24, just curious if you ever saw pics of the unit before he shipped it to you? It's quite possible that this thing was messed up before he sent it to you. This thing smelled foul from the beginning.

On another note I am not sure if Doug917 is keeping the traders list updated or not, I notice he doesn't log on much anymore (If I am wrong about this please accept my apology) I wonder if one of the more active mods like hemster or LCSeminole could ask Doug917 if they could take over the traders list and keep it updated with more current information (the last time the list was updated was Sept. 2 and there have been a lot of posts since then). airgas1998 is listed in there as having a +3 (although neither interspy24, nor has edoggrc51 posted any negative comments).

In my opinion i think he sent me an Oppo that was in the advertised condition. But the packaging was horrible. Either way its bad.

Leaving negative feedback now. Thanks for reminding me to do that btw.

Probably. But did you see any pics? If was a packaging error both times then he is a tool bag. Just seems fishy, 2 transactions close together, both the same price for 2 different pieces of gear and this has happened to both of you. Really sucks.

I guess that someone could send some old pics, so I guess that no one is ever really safe, just got to trust that the seller is going to be a real man and be trustworthy and not try to scam people.

No I didnt see any pics. But based on the kind of damages (mostly scratches) the Oppo arrived in, I came to the conclusion that most likey it happened from the packaging material rubbing on the unit. In other words, a very poor packing job.

EDIT: Negative feedback left

The Trader's List is seriously broken around here. :(

The bold part above is particularily awesome to me because I have had 5 positive transactions on this board over the last 9 months and do not even exist because nobody has taken the time to update the list! ??? I've tried to bring it to attention but nobody is listening. Understandably, being the Keeper of The List is a chore-like task to perform, but it's an important part of the community.

An updated Trader's List would not have prevented this situation obviously...'things' happen. Looks like airgas1998 had 3 good transactions with people on here and then something happened to him and he turned into a bad man and went to the darkside of being a Bad Trader.
