It seems that when I look through the Emporium, there are quite a few "for sale" threads with no pictures of the actual product. Like today, there are some Magnaplanars in there, and the guy has 1 post. 1! No pictures
As much as I hate new rules, I feel picture taking is a basic one to forum selling.
I don't have to tell anyone that taking a picture and posting it online is among the easiest things you can do these days. Even the cheapest cellphones have a camera in them these days. I don't think a professional quality pic is needed, just clear enough to see what I'm dealing with.
Discuss.
EDIT:*** I posted this in the Green room, it got moved to here.
I always post pictures of anything I sell and I think it is a courtesy and professional best practice. I am quite surprised to see some of the flippant remarks stating otherwise. I think it is easy enough to do and agree with you.

I like pics and I also like money.
I do however, post pics whenever I sell something. If the seller doesn't post pics unless of course I know the person I would like pics of the actual item. I did buy some Blurays, cds, and many PS3 games without pics but on larger, more expensive items I want pictures.

I have sold four amps and bought one, all through this forum whithout pictures.I belive that communication between buyer and seller will set the trust level better than any picture can.It is my experience that when someone buys expensive equipment they take care of that item.It is always a crapshoot when you buy from someone you dont know and cant see.

I read the title ...I read the first part of the first post ....and Yes it does bother me. how can you post something for sale and asks Hundreds and times Thousands of dollars and not post a darn picture. yes I can Google it..but I like to see what it is that you're selling and If i'm going to be interested to go find out more about it. not always do I go shopping for the very specific item, sometimes I'm window shopping and if your window is full of dust ...guess what I'm moving on.
I have no idea how we ever sold things like cars etc. in classified ads in newspapers back in the days before the Internet.
That worked for two reasons, first pictures were not possible in newspaper ads so no one expected them or thought twice about it.Second, those were local sales, you went over to the sellers place and saw the darn thing in person, even better than pictures.

well,I remember in so cal in the 80's & 90's a car & misc want ads paper called the "recycler",and that was the ebay of that time, and it ALWAYS had pictures.

Speaking of dust, I am turned off when someone posts a picture, or pictures, of an item for sale and they can't even be bothered to clean the dust off the item. I see this way too much on Craigslist and ebay. It can be very difficult to judge the condition of an item if it has an inch or two of dust/dirt on it.

To those who are taking a stand and/or arguing against requiring pictures in a for sale ad: Why is it such a big deal? It takes me about 2 minutes to get a pic online from the time I take it to when it is in a thread. I understand that not everyone has the snazzy phone that can do that, and it takes more time to use a digcam, hook to the comp, and upload, but even then only a few minutes from beginning to end. Why would you argue against it when it can only help your sale? It seems to me that if you have the time to make a thread, you can spare the extra few minutes to take and post a pic with it.

I am not arguing against including pictures,in fact I strongly prefer and encourage it. I argue against requiring it because we don't need to be told what to do.There are way too many rules and regulations in life already and I am against adding more when we don't need them. If a seller chooses to leave out pictures even though it is easy and might make his ad more effective then so be it,it's his ad and his choice.

Exactly. Sometimes we get too caught up in what others are doing.

Well personally I would rather see pictures but it's the seller's choice, not mine. If I am really interested and there are no pics, then I will ask the seller to send some to me. If they refuse and it isn't someone on the lounge that I trust, then I just think they're up to no good. But that's not my problem or concern. We have enough meddling from our government without trying to force people to post pics.

EXACTLY!!!
Its a choice the seller makes when they put something up for sale. The buyer also has a choice to make. To make a lack of pictures life's pet peeve seems a bit over the top. If you let something like that irk you then you are probably someone that lets all the little things in life disturb you. In other words you are letting other people and events control your emotions. I.E. - you are disturbed.
