FS - Grado 325i Headphones « Thread Started on Aug 26, 2012, 3:55pm »
Edit - SOLD
Well the itch to try new headphones has afflicted me so I have decided to sell my Grado 325i's. They are in excellent condition. I estimate I have used them for about 100-150 hours at the most.
Price: $220 shipped, including PayPal fees, to the continental 48 states. Please PM if interested.
I have had SR60, SR80, SR125, and PS500s cans so far.
What are you stepping up to? Grado 325i's are VERY nice imo.
I'm not sure. Between the 325i and Senn HD580 I have put more time on the 325i's but when I really compare the two, the Grado's are too bright and don't sound as natural as the Senn's.
I'm not sure what I am going to get but as of right now the main candidates are either the Senn HD650 or the HifiMan HE500's. I am wondering if the HD650 is going to sound different enough to be worthwhile getting.
On the other hand, I like the HD580's overall so I am also wondering why I feel compelled to even get anything else. Reading all the comments over at Head-Fi makes my head spin. They should call it Head-Spin.org instead.

Congrats on the sale Rickie!
No doubt every time I go there to research I always end up looking at something I had no intention of looking at and then I forget why I was there in the first place. It happens...

Thanks! And uh.. were you describing yourself or me? If I spent as much time listening to music as I do looking at stuff to play the music, I sure would be spending a lot of time listening to music.

Rickie
If you prefer the Senn 580 over the Grado 325 I might suggest you take a good listen to the Denon AH-D7000 or the new AH-D7100. They sound similar to the Senn 650 but with more dynamics of a Grado. I haven't heard the new D7100, but I loved the sound of the D7000.
I own the Grado 325, 225 and the Senn 580. My brother owns the Senn 600, 650, and 800. I almost bought the Denon AH-D7000 but thought I am more than happy with my Grado and Senn and would find better use for the funds I would spend on the Denon cans. I would have to pick the Denon over the Senn 650; but I am not sure which I would pick between the Senn 800 and the Denon 7000. There are so many really good headphones it is hard to choose between cans in the upper price levels. Have fun auditioning candidates.

Thanks for the recs... the Denon D7000 looks like it isn't available anymore but that and its replacement are way over my budget. Gotta get the XSP-1 and XMC-1 first! I like the Senn 580's and am not sure I am even going to get anything else although the guy paid me for the Grado's already and I'm just itching to try something else... You are right about there being so many good ones out there, plus reading the various comments gets confusing since everyone's opinions differ so much. I have to stop being so lazy and look for some local places to audition some choices.
I was very tempted by this sale. I have the HD650 and somehow imagine that I might be happier with headphones that are a tiny bit brighter.
Anyway, it is almost September and Christmas Bonus time is just around the corner, and I might try some Grados.
The 325i's pair nicely with Schiit Asgard amps.
I'd say the Grado's are more than just a tiny bit brighter than the HD650's, though. They are quite bright and forward sounding, like you are in the middle of the musicians.

Thanks for the feedback, Ricky.
Re comfort, how would you compare this to your Senn? I listen at work continuously, only taking lunch and dinner (and bathroom) breaks, so probably around 10 hours per day. I never liked the metal band of the 650 because they are really tight, though this has gotten better because I stretch them apart everyday. I wear reading glasses, and fear the Grado would press my ears to the arms of my glasses and this could get uncomfortable over time.

I read a lot of complaints about how uncomfortable Grado headphones are but if you ask me, they are more comfortable than the Senn's. The Senn's clamping force is pretty tight, whereas the Grados are rather loose, sometimes feeling like they are not very secure. I think people complain because the ear cups touch their ear rather than surround it but that doesn't bother me. I can wear the Grado's for a long time but the Senn's start pressing on my head and pretty soon there's no more blood circulation, haha.. (well, not really that bad but they do feel tight).
Other complaint about Grado - the cord is very short.
BTW I just ordered the 650's today so I am hoping they don't put my head in a vise.
