There are not many ICE based sub amps, the modules are to expensive. As for not running them full range, I dunno man that made me give the ol cocked eyebrow look lol. That just seems like an old school response to me. They play full range just as well as anything I've ever heard. Out of curiosity RLW, which class D stuff have you heard? I hope it's not just a generalization of class D stuff because you've heard some old modules that were sub par (which a lot were) I'm not saying you're wrong not to like it, just trying to get a better understanding where you are coming from.
And no , no stadium lol but thats only about 1/4th of what I have around the house and in storage. I've built TONS of subs, they are just fun to build and I like trying them out. And to be honest, I don't use class d to power my subs, everything is class H.
@AudioHead, look at the specs for the TDB series - simply incredible, especially for a tube hybrid...

PS: My TDB-5150 was $3295 retail when I bought mine, new in the box, off Audiogon for $1700 delivered to my door. Sweet!!
..Cool looking amps!Great specs too.I didn't find on there site how long the tubes last?I know lots of people do the rollin tube thing too get even better sound out of audio gear more so with CD players and Pre-Pros.The one thing i like the best about BK's amps are the fact is there is No negetive feed back at all.And the blue lites...something about the blues..i can dig it man.I could get one now the one i like is the two channel i would input it for my 2.1 set up.I may try one out. Thanks rlw for the link and heads up on them BK amps.@rlw..never mine on how long the tubes last i found a review on them BK's, the guy is going on how they may last as long as you own it.Great review on them cool amps! now back to reading the review.

I must admit that my experience with Class D amps is outdated, I have not heard the newer ICE Power versions. So, take my observations with a large grain of salt <g>.
And, believe me, I researched the hell out of power amps before buying my Butler. *All* of the reviews rave about these amps. And, as you noted, the specs are incredible. Power bandwidth virtually flat out to 50kHz (down 3db at that point), +- 0.5 db from 20-20k, no negative feedback, big caps (20,000 microF for each channel), very fast slew rate, NO output transformers (!!), and on and on. BK reallly has something here.
VERY good specs: All channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads: 0.1% distortion at 193.5 watts (mine benched at 197 watts) Frequency response: –0.54 dB at 10 Hz ;–0.19 dB at 20 Hz –0.13 dB at 20 kHz;–0.67 dB at 50 kHz (This is amazing)
And, as for tube life, BK Butler states that the tubes will last at least 20 years with *no* biasing. And they should - his design runs them at only 5% of their rated output!! Truly revolutionary design backed by excellent parts and build quality. So, you get great Made in America quality, the sweetness of toobz coupled with balls of a MOSFET output stage. A pretty devastating combo, IMHO.
And the Butler blue matches the Emo blue *perfectly*, without the glare!
It sounds sooo good that I will probably never buy another power amp...
-RW- Keep an eye on Audiogon.com, Butler amps come up every once in a while. I have seen 6-month old TDB-2250s going for $1800 - whoa!!
I feel that this amp is a slight upgrade to my XPA5. It really shines at louder volumes, which is where I do most of my listening. I have no issues using this as a full range amp. It's powering all 5 of my current speakers, with one channel not being used.
It does however, run a bit warmer at moderate volume than my XPA5 did. But I feel that the case does not have adequate ventalation and I don't have much air movement in my room. I have a fan next to it that takes care of the heat.
I haven't been able to speak about the noise floor, because all of my speaker wires and power wires are run along the same wall, literally sitting on top of each other. I do have a hiss, but I feel it's because of my wires.
Overall, for what I paid for the amp, I feel I got a good deal, got more power, and I honestly can't say if the sound is better or worse than the XPA5 without wondering about a placebo effect. However, I will say that I don't miss my XPA5. I love not breaking my back picking it up either.
Those butler amps looks pretty cool. Far more than I'm willing to pay anytime soon though.

^ It does surprise me to learn that your SDS-470C (class-D) runs warmer than the XPA-5 (class A/B). Do you by chance use the gain controls on them? That would run them with a much higher bias current, contributing to the heat factor.

I emailed with Denis at D-Sonic and he confirmed he is using ICE output modules and switching power supplies. That's how he can get them into such a small chassis.
