My Cd Player feels funny… « Thread Started on Feb 8, 2012, 7:22pm »
Yup you red it right it feels funny, and no I can’t take the CD Player around the country and get it to tell jokes and make money for this whole engagement thing
But on to the real issue…I have a Rotel 991 AE, one heck of a cd Player TOP NOTCH! And it plays and has been for years w/out any issues. It’s currently coupled to a XDA 1 and I couldn’t be happier w/the performance.
So what happens you ask…Touch the cd player..nothing happens…run your finger along the front face plate, side to side up and down and in circles…..nothing Turn on the CD player…Just power it up w/out a cd ….now touch it….nothing……run your finger along the front face plate, side to side up and down and even all around….NOW IT HAPPENED!
You feel this vibration on your finger tips when you move your hand .. if you just touch it, nothing, move your hand and all sorts of things are happening under your finger tip… stop moving, nothing… turn of the CD player..Nothing…turn it on move your finger and there it is again!

You need to change your nic to Dr Feel Funny then things will return to normal....sorry couldnt resist.
Sounds like a grounding issue or perhaps a power filter issue.
This can happen if the capacitors from L/N on your power input start acting like a voltage divider and you get traces of voltages at very low current using you body to ground.

Any thoughts?
Are you sure it's not a Ouiji CD player? Seriously, check your ground.
I just have to ask. Why are you rubbing your gear?

Seek service or check your earths
You could try bringing it to a friends place and plug it in there to see if you get the same results. If so, you need to get it to a service center. If it works fine in another home get an AC outlet tester and check the outlets in your home for faults. Here is a tester like the one I'm talking about: http://www.amazon.com/ELECTRICAL-RECEPTACLE-TESTER-OUTLET-PRONG/dp/B002Q3R7HI

You may be getting near its clitoris which why it's acting that way. Unless it's a boy CD player. You'll know it's a boy if it extends its tray and shoots a CD at you.

Ahh You guys are Killing me !! I'll run aground on it this weekend and check the outlets... what I forgot to mention is that my CD player is plugged into a Monster HTS 3600's Digital Filter plug/outlet.
So I guess the plot thickens a bit
PS: Can't wait to go home and start touching the CD Player ...LOL

Seriously, try plugging the CD Player directly into the wall outlet to make sure the Monster is not contributing to the issue. If that solves the problem you are lucky. Another possibility is that you have dirty power, maybe DC is hitching a ride on your AC line. Yet another possibility is you have resonance problem. Get some anti-vibration devices between the CD Player and the shelf it sits on. Resonant frequencies cause more problems than you would ever suspect.

***FIXED*** The CD Player no longer feels funny when I Rub my finger up down and all around it ..LOL.
it was a grounding issue, kind of odd I ran a ground from a chassy screw to the ground point on the Monster HTS power center, which everything is plugged into.
I am starting to wonder ...has the monster gone bad? no something I want to have to replace .

I have an old Yamaha receiver from 1979 that does what you describe but ONLY if the plug is reversed. There is no polarized end so it's easy to plug it in the wrong way. I had to mark the plug so I would plug it in the right way.
Is the plug on your CD player polarized? I would assume so...I think almost all gear in the 80's was...At least after '82.
