 erc-1 not working
« Thread Started on Mar 30, 2012, 10:37pm »

Hi guys ,wondering if anyone has the same problem with their cd player?
Had mine for 18mths, worked perfectly until now.
Put in a disk, it spins for a moment, stops and spits is out.
It does this with every disk i put in,it cant seem to read the disk properly, not sure if its the laser (which ive cleaned with alcohol)
or something else, some advice would be great
Id love to send it back but i live in Australia & would probably cost me $80 each way

sometimes turning the unit off and unplugging from wall can reset a unit. worth a try. but mine did a similar thing and i finally had to send it back to repair the transport. good luck.

E-mail Emotiva's tech support and fill them in on what is happening. Also let them know you "cleaned" the laser with alcohol just in case it may have contributed to your problem.

Have you tried "Ejecting" the ERC-1 after it powers up and displays READY? One time my wife left a CD in the ERC-1 and powered down. When I turned it on the next day and attempted to load a new CD the player kept returning the CD immediately after it pulled the disc into the player. After a few iterations it donned on me that maybe there was already a CD in the player, and I pushed the Eject button and Presto out pops the CD my wife had left in the player. After that my player has worked flawlessly ever since.

I have had my ERC-1 over two years now and I play CDs about 20 to 30 hours per week. Knock on wood, but that issue with my wife is the only problem I have ever had with my unit. Good luck with Tech Support.

I had almost the same problem, mine it would just spin and say loading but would not play the CD I contacted Emotiva sent it in for repairs. It was a bad loader they replaced it and it's been fine every since it sounds better too. It was about 14 months old when this occured I think that I was pushing the CD's in too hard, I was the"bad loader" so now I just place them in the slot and let the machine load them. Contact Emotiva they will fix you up good as new, they have the best customer service department ever. Mine is still under warranty so the repair and return shipping were free of charge. To me even if it cost you $80.00 both ways it will be worth it. Good Luck J

Hmmm. I have no problem with the sound of my ERC-1 but sometimes I feel that I really have to push the disc in rather hard. I hope that I don't end up with the same problem.

They will prob send you out a new transport and you just need to put it in...it's a 5 yr warranty. You made far enough inside to clean the pickup so I assume you have the skills to swap out the drive...or can get some there that can. I do plenty of emo repairs here in Singapore on the same basis....to far to RMA

I have a pile of stuff that pushes out squiggly waveforms from smaller squiggly waveforms that sometimes come from 1's and 0's.

It's wonderful to behold as long as you don't let the magic smoke out.

For the most part it just all works...when it doesn't then it's time to rub a few brain cells together and soon enough it's all good to go again.

Life is short! Enjoy the music while it plays :D

I use to feel like I had to" really push the disc in rather hard " also it seemed to just spin if I didn't. I would eject it then give it a good shove then it would play. Now I just insert it and the player takes hold I just wait easy does it.

Pushing too hard on the disc to make it load faster is likely to damage the mechanism over time. I always gently slide the CD in to the slot and wait for the loader to clamp down on the CD. Just be patient it takes a few seconds to position the disc in the laser reading position. Good luck with getting your unit repaired.

You should never have to clean the laser on this unit. I use two CD players from 1988 and I've never had to clean the lenses. I did have to re-grease the drive on one of them. Same goes with a multitude of DVD players I've owned...Never need cleaning.

Perfect advice. When I had the ERC-1, at first I thought I had to add some extra pressure, not so. There is a slight delay after you push it in gently, and then it grabs hold and loads it. No need at all for any firm pressure.

The new ERC-2 has solved this issue and it is velvety smooth!
