I just noticed that you can buy the black metal trim pieces for the ERC-1. has anyone done that yet? I just ordered them for my ERC-1 but won't receive them for a few days. However, we already have them for our XPA-5. I tried them in all possible ways including black trim pieces with silver screws. In the end both my wife and I preferred the all black option. It is really just a matter of personal preference. I'll try to get some photos posted as I have time. ;D

How do you like the look of the black on the XPA-5? They are cheap enough that I may just go ahead and order them for the ERC-1.

Black trim on XPA-2s Meters turned off!! That looks great! I took the trim off my units and just put the silver screws back in. I definitely like the way that looks better than with the trim on.. I can't bring myself to spend $80 on black trim, though (I would need 4 sets.. plus another set if I did that with the UPA-2 I'm not using now).

You can always spray paint the trim black. It has been done before and posted on the forums. Looked just as good. Krylon satin or matte black finish. You may or may not want to use a primer first.

For those that are a little bit on the brave side. Here's something you might want to try... Pick up some black Rit dye... Put a pot on the stove and heat some water and a good amount of dye up to about 140F. (not boiling) Put the Aluminum trim pieces in the dye for about 15 min's. Pull them out and they should (I say should because many times clear anodize is not sealed) come out black. At the very least... They will be a gun metal grey. If they turn out black... Put another pot of water on the stove and bring it to a boil. Put the dyed trim in for 15-20 mins to set the dye. See this post if you're skeptical regarding my knowledge of anodizing. emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=diy&action=display&thread=6346

They'll be here next Tuesday. I'll post pictures Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
Can't wait.. ;D

3 pieces of Emo kit with newly installed black trim... I like the black trim pieces with the chromed cap screws better than with the black screws.

I got mine last night and put them on right away. I decided to use the silver chrome screws instead of the black and really like the look.

Black trim on XPA-2s Meters turned off!! Now if you could only get the LEDs to cycle side-to-side, you could have your very own cylons
