I watched The Amazing spiderman 2 nights ago. I thought it was good.
Watched Brave last night. The video was probably the most clear I have ever seen. The movie was ok. Not really as funny as I would have liked.

Take Shelter - 2011 This won an award at Cannes. This is a very suspenseful film. That is a good one! I watched this on Blu-ray a few months ago (still own it) and also thought it was excellent, (though the ending was a bit of a cop-out I thought...). A good story that has you trying to guess between mental illness, or maybe he's the only one who can see it? Worthwhile!

Watched "Black Swan" (With 'Best Actress' Natalie Portman) from 2010 last night on Blu-ray. A very good story that kept our interest throughout. A spectacle of mental illness in an overwrought and upcoming ballet star (Portman), and her rivals (imagined and otherwise!). The acting was very good throughout, including the overbearing and over protective mother. But in old mom's defense, she was probably concerned with her daughter's obvious slide mentally downward. A strong performance from everyone in this movie! (Mrs. Mad Norseman liked it too, but thought it was depressing. Okay, but can all movies be billed as "the feel-good movie of the year"? I mean c'mon!). Okay, here are my ratings: Movie story interest: 4.5 out of 5 stars. A compelling drama that held our interest throughout. Kind of a 'chick flick' just because of the subject matter (ballet), but the crusty old Norseman like it too. Video quality: 2.5 out of 5 stars, (Aspect ratio 2.40:1). The video in this film showed obvious, and annoying heavy film grain throughout which I didn't care for. Maybe the director was trying to take us a bit into the gauzy mental illness nightmare of the lead character? But I thought the video on this was bad. A handful of razor sharp close ups didn't make up for the dominate 'film grain'. A disappointment in this category IMO... Audio quality: 4.5 out of 5 stars, (DTS HD Master Audio 5.1). The soundtrack was clear, dynamic, and makes great use of the surrounds. VERY well done. There's a bar/rock/band dance scene that comes up with about a 20db SPL increase out of the blue that will blow your socks off - audio wise! Overall rating – 4.0 out of 5.0 stars, Recommended as an excellent drama, and great audio soundtrack. Gets four out of five stars from me - despite the generally crappy video quality of this film. A worthwhile way to spend an hour and 48 minutes! Attachments:

Fierce People - 2006 Well this got tomatoed by the critics but I enjoyed it. A disturbing tale and am glad I saw it. Good soundtrack, unique story and not predictable in the least.

Watched "Surrogates" Bruce Willis Sci-Fi film from 2009 last night on Blu-ray. Kind of a short movie that didn't give a lot of background before it launched into the story & plot line. The acting was okay, but the characters were somewhat wooden - and i don't mean because most were surrogates themselves!. Taking place in a futuristic U.S. (maybe 15 or 20 years from now), people have abandoned personal interactions in favor of having their self-controlled, but younger, and better looking surrogate experience life for them. (Mrs. Mad Norseman feel asleep half way through, but I think it wasn't because the movie isn't interesting, but maybe had more to do with those two martinis beforehand,...but I digress!). Okay, here are my ratings: Movie story interest: 3.0 out of 5.0 stars. Somewhat predictable, and with often wooden acting and formula dialog. Video quality: 4.0 out of 5.0 stars, (Aspect ratio 2.40:1). The video is pretty good throughout. Typical action flick, with some good chase scenes and gunfighting effects. Audio quality: 4.5 out of 5.0 stars, (DTS HD Master Audio 5.1). Very good and dynamic with great and repeated use of the surrounds. Perfectly suits this film. Overall rating – 3.5 out of 5.0 stars, Cautiously recommended to Sci-Fi freaks, and those who like Bruce Willis action movies (I do!), but not everyone's 'cup of tea'. Other than my better half nodding off, Id still have to say its worth a look. I'd picked it up on eBay as 'Like New' for a song, so can't complain too much! A notably short movie at only an hour and 29 minutes... Attachments:

My son visited for Thanksgiving and brought Hunger Games and Expendables 2 with him. We watched Hunger games and I actually enjoyed the movie. However once seen another viewing will have to wait until I forget at happened. Have not watched Expendables 2 yet but he did leave it here for me to view when I want to.
