I own a 357 that I keep in my nightstand with hollow points.... not sure of the make....a friend gave this to me about 15 years ago when the restaurant I owned kept getting broken into. I also have a 22 pistol and 12 gauge shotgun I inherited from my father.
If they can get by my Akita a hollow point will be their next obstacle and I won't miss. I don't care if they ever restrict guns I will never give up mine.....period....the founding fathers weren't stupid that is why we have the 2nd amendment.... "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Well a friend of mine has an XD 9mm SC and I love the feel of it and it's extremely reliable. My hand's aren't huge so I think the XD's fit me better. I went around and thought about guns for a long time and there are a couple others I'd like but the XD is one of the cheapest and a very nice one as well.
FWIW trying to keep this unpolitical Australia does have one of the worst crime rates in the world amongst non 3rd world countries. I have quite a few friends that live there and they tell me about the crap that goes down there nearly every day.

You know it's funny because everyone thinks of Texas as like the gun capital. Realistically though PA's gun laws are more relaxed then Texas. In Texas you're required to have a permit to open carry while in PA you're not. Maybe some of the other laws are worse here I don't know? Mostly we don't require a permit because population is under 1 mill or something. I can't remember now it was something a friend and I were looking into.

There is no open carry permit in Texas Dougie. We do have concealed carry licenses though. I believe open carry is the only difference between PA's & TX's gun laws though. Personally I think open carry is a bad idea.

I don't know I was talking to a friend of ours that lives in Texas and he said you have to apply for a permit or maybe it just wasn't allowed period? I agree I would never open carry. I don't like to advertise in public what I have on me.

Here in MO there are guys that carry guns on their belts cocked and ready with ammo on the other side. One guy I was talking to about it said it was just part of his daily routine. He put on his gun every day just like he would put on his pants and shoes. I wouldn't say that this practice is common here, but I have seen it a few times.
On a side note the XD is a nice gun and if you have bigger hands they make an extended clip that fits larger hands a lot better. Not to mention the fact that you get more rounds.

Well most people I know that CCW have their guns loaded and cocked. If you have to pull it out and do all that to save your life you're probably going to be dead. I like the safety features on the XD because it's pretty much impossible to fire it without holding it even when it's cocked and loaded.

Yeah that makes sense. I was just trying to point out that they don't hide their guns at all. Its in plain view on their hip.
Your right about the XD. It has what they call a beaver tail safety meaning that the safety is on the back of the handle and you have to squeeze it before you can pull the trigger. This thread makes we want to go shooting today.
All the hunters are out right now and I generally don't like to go to the range during the hunting season lol.
Yea, every year when I go to sight in my deer rifle it is a mad house of people out there. This year wasn't too bad though. Luckily at the local range they have divided up the sections for short and long range so they really don't interfere with each other.

I have a concealed-carry permit for Ohio, though I don't carry much anymore. I had it for when I would have to travel to less than desirable areas for work. Most of theses places now restrict carrying weapons on private property. Which is fine, but it makes it a hassle as I would have to leave it in my car which, considering the areas, was not desirable nor practical if you think about it. Never carried cocked though. Loaded and chambered (maybe), but not cocked. Weighing a full trigger pull against overall safety, I always went with safety regardless of how "safe" the gun is. Obvious exceptions being internally cocked models like Glock. With good practice, even chambering can be done quickly adding another bit of safety particularly if there's a chance of your weapon being taken by surprise. You know it's not chambered, your attacker does not. Depends on the situation though.
Favorite items (that I own) include Glock 22, FN 57, S&W 686 (4"), Springfield 1911-A1 and M1A rifle.

I agree, and always thought carrying without chambering was a good idea, both for safety and should my weapon not be in my possession for any reason..
However, the first time I had to clear leather, I was really pissed at myself (afterwards) for not having the weapon ready to go. Had the situation been only slightly different, it could have cost me dearly.

Glock 17 and SigSauer P226. Two extremely accurate out of the box pistols. I've shot many a handgun, and these 2 manufacturers are well suited to my hands.

In the last month and a half, I've picked up a Smith M&P9c for myself, and two Smith 642's; one for me and one for my wife (her's has a Crimson Trace grip). We took the cc class a month ago, and these will be our carry pieces. Years ago I did a lot of shooting and reloading and had a nice collection. Trap was my first love. But I found I just wasn't going to the ranges anymore, so sold off everything almost twenty years ago. Now that we've both been to the range, I've got that itch again. I have a Smith 63 (22lr revolver) on order for my wife as a Christmas present. Should be perfect for her to handle at the range (she did very well with her 642 38's for the cc class). I'm trying to decide what to get for myself for target work. I really like 22's, and the Smith 617 is a nice piece. But then I look at the model 27 (classic style .357 blue revolver), and the 686 (full underlug .357 in stainless), and the 952 (Smith 9mm semi-auto target gun from their performance center) and I can't make up my mind. Kinda like trying to decide on a/v stuff.
