Currently have a USP-1 but do like the idea of seeing the source being played. How does the old RSP-2 compare?

I have had the USP-1 in one of my two channel rooms and was able to compare it to the RSP-2, and thought the RSP-2 sounded better, and that was with both the XPA-1 and RPA-2 amps.To me it had better definition.

That's what I was thinking and think it might be warmer.

It does have a warmer sound to it,sounds real sweet with a RPA-2.

I've owned the RSP-1 and currently have a USP-1. My personal experience has been that the noise floor is lower on the USP-1. In fact the noise floor of the USP-1 is inaudible in my system. I especially noticed it in the phono stage. I've read that the phono stage was basically lifted from the RSP but for some unknown reason the hiss was audibly louder. Maybe it was a problem with my RSP-1. Don't know.
In my opinion the RSP-1 had a slight edge over the USP-1 in sound quality. I found it to be more involving. Very detailed as well. As I've aged my musical interests have turned primarily to Blues and Jazz. Listening to it through the RSP-1 would give me the fizzies. I could easily drift into the music before even realizing it was happening. I had a real tough time peeling my a** off the couch when it was playing. It has been described as having a refined sound. Imo that is a great way to describe how it sounds.
The USP-1 on the other hand is very quiet. In fact it's quieter than any other pre or receiver I've owned. Detail is not an issue with the USP either. It gives plenty of it. It is a real bargain for the money.
Just my opinion. We all hear differently so ymmv.

Have been eyeing the same on eBay. With the XSP-1 due to come out in a couple of months am thinking I would be better off to just wait.

I don't think the XSP-1 is going to have another delay. Emotiva has locked the design and has sent production units out for "Certification" testing. Once it passes all the certification test it is slated for full scale production. Finally, it looks like we will all be able to get our hands on the XSP-1 in about 2 to 3 months, if there are no delays making its way the the certification tests. That is something Emotiva has no control over.

No, I know, but everyone is talking like they're gonna have one in their laps by May. Unfortunately, that's just an impossibility. Seriously, I'm just as stoked about this pre as everyone else, but I know how long it takes production runs to ramp up.
