i have had rotel in the distant past and it was good quality stuff at reasonable prices. still, the price to performance ratio on the emotiva amps can't be beat and i love my xpa-5.

just my 2 euros.

+1. I too was a Rotel devotee in days gone by but Emotiva has them beat by a margin.

I don't have two of any denominations for you. However, I'm a big Rotel fan, as well. I think that a Rotel amp is going to cost more. It might buy you a hint of warmth above the XPA line of amps, to my ears. It will not buy you any clarity, extra slam, dynamics or openness, though. I can't comment on the UPA differences, I don't have any significant time with the UPA stuff. The Emotiva is the clear price/performance winner with either the UPA or the XPA line. Since you're already using a Rotel as your pre, I'd say you'll get any hint of needed warmth from that, and that an Emotiva amp would be a perfect match.

I should follow all that up by saying, I've sold all the Rotel gear I've owned, and I'm buying more Emotiva gear all the time.

I think aside from simply being able to reliably provide stable power in the amount demanded at the resistance demanded, amps really affect the sound of a system the least by far. Speakers, tuning and source material all matter a lot more. The only thing that matters less is speaker cable.

So I think with an amp you should just save your money and go with an Emo product that meets or exceeds your power and channel requirements.

I'm speaking as somebody who had a Rotel RB-1090 (their most beastly 2 channel amp). It was solid. I used to use it to drive up to 4 different pairs of speakers simultaneously at very loud volumes and never once heard it bottom out. But after maybe 6 years of ownership it went up in sparks on me when I accidentally touched a positive and negative speaker cable while it was playing at a low volume.

My XPA-5 sounds just as good to me, although I have to admit I haven't attempted to drive as many speakers as loudly with it. Some day I'll get an XPA-2 for that role. The XPA-5 just powers my home theater system.

I've gotta say I mostly agree with the replies so far.I've owned several different Rotels over the years,when they were the best bang for the buck.I really like Rotel,good build,good sound,good looks.I bought some Emotiva gear and sold my Rotel gear shortly after.For the amps I think Emo is really close,for a prepro the old 1068 beat the lmc easy.The UMC is as good as the 1068 was,that's not an easy task considering the price.

Same for me, luv my Rotel gear, but now Rotel is getting more expensive plus Emotiva has taken the lead in both performance & value. :)

* Amps = Emotiva.
* CD player = Emotiva.
* Pre/pro = Emotiva (yup :) ).
* Receiver = None. ;)

I think he meant to place it in the amplifier section, as the OPs original question was about amps.

If so, paying attention to my own business would be in order.

Man, I don't know, this one's a close call. The 1570 (Rotel RSP-1570) is a Pre/Pro, after all. Now, he was asking Emotiva amps, but attached to a Rotel processor. Since they both affect speaker performance, I'm thinking this should be moved to The Emporium. From there, the OP can sell the Rotel Pre/Pro to purchase some Emotiva speakers and get on the list for a UMC-1.
:P ;D <-- See tongue, see smile, see joke - see above post where I said I like Rotel. (just making sure no one takes this seriously)

I'm just kidding around, but I agree, it's an amp discussion.

I had a Rotel 1095 amp and was very happy with it. I ended up buying an XPA-5 to see how it compared. I'm honestly not sure if I can hear a difference or if my mind just wants to like the XPA more. Either way, I ended up selling the Rotel.

I have had Bryston, Parasound & Rotel amps and the Rotel was the best price/performance that I have experienced. I have not demoed an Emotiva amp yet. The Bryston was incredible but way over priced, especially here in Canada where they are 50 - 60% higher in price than in the US. Funny as Bryston is a Canadian company.

Mine was a pure 200 watts per channel with all channels driven superb performer. The amp drove my Infinity Kapp 8.2s cleanly with no issues. The pre/pros were Classe and Rotel.

It's interesting how many of us Emotiva owners used to have Rotel gear... My previous amp (sold long before I bought the XPA-2) was a Rotel RB-1080...
