OK folks with all of the people wondering about the 30-day return policy in regards to the UMC-1 and the impending firmware update, (myself included), I decided to do something extremely radical. I actually picked up the phone and called Emotiva! *Gasp* Here's the scoop from the lovely Sarah herself: The 30 day trial period will begin AFTER Emotiva releases the firmware update. No sense in trying to evaluate a product that isn't working right and Emotiva understands this. So there you go folks. Making a phone call can work wonders. You're all welcome.

I would have been shocked if Emotiva did NOT extend the trial period. I have yet to see an instance that Emotiva did not bend over backward to accommodate treating their customers fairly. They have always "erred" on the side of the customer. ;D
Emotiva goes to great lengths to ensure their customer base is happy. This is simply "standard" behavior by Emotiva when dealing with problems. Emotiva ROCKS!

I called on Jan. 25th, but was told there was no decision on it yet. So there's at least 2 geniuses out there. ;D edit: But, this news really makes me wonder now when the FW will make it out. Regardless, I must be one of the luckier ones as apart from the video res drop-out and some minor annoyances (like dolby volume doesn't remain locked on after power off or source switch even if leave it on "Low"), I have a mostly functional UMC-1. I don't have the audio-drop out issue which is one thing that would kill any enjoyment of this unit and might drive me to send it back asap.

Which one of you had the NERVE to call us??? Don't you know we're BUSY??? I specifically told Sarah to lock the doors, close the blinds, and hang up on anyone who DARED to call us for help!!! I've got to set her straight. Just give us your MONEY and NEVER, NEVER ask why. You'll take what we give you and be grateful!!! Heads are gonna' roll. Customer service? Why, that's just old fashioned. These are modern times, and we need to get with it. You have all have become too darn demanding. I'm gonna' install an automated phone attendant that will keep you on perpetual hold in order to make sure this never happens again. Ha!!! Try to get help then... that will fix you. Hopefully, you will have some good news for us later today on the status of the SW update for the UMC-1. That would really put a "BIG" smile on a lot of faces.

With the report that 99.9% of the known bug issue being resolved, I am a bit concerned that 2 weeks have gone by with no SW update... update. I am chomping at the bit to run EmoQ and get the subs working correctly.
