I'm confused, the OP says his amp is from 1969. I was born in 1985, and even I have changed a lot since then. How can you be sure its the room? Did he specify dimensions? Obviously it is possible that the speakers are brand new and need time to break in. I'm not trying to come off of rude, just curious about your statement. Everything I have read, even before this forum, demand you have a powerful amp to push 4 ohm speakers. Are you sure the OP has his speakers set up right? I am interested to see what he has to say down the road.

Good luck Pantera, as I will be pushing ALL Emotiva speakers in the future. Blindly I might add. However, I have no past listening experiences to judge on. Lucky me :D

You sir have a very valid point! And for that you have my full respect.

Well im back at home and all day thinking in your post and making deductions on my head
Well i think this is why audio is so interesting.

The news Great improvements in sound first i take out the surge protection and plug the old amp directly on the wall then change a little the position of the speakers and finaly when i was re conecting the speakers to the amp a little switch phase 0 - 180 mmm it was on 180
I said to my self. " my self this must be on 0 " and then i turn it to 0 phase put the cd and the old amp said here i go im not such crap as everybody thinks the bass its there the stage opened man its not a super high end sound but now sound pretty nice i can listen and enjoy lots more detail the volume its little higer i am not pushing it to much but at 1/3. Of the volume im getting 93 db at 2 mts of distance i guess its all the power that i must ask of the old one now im more relaxed i think there its alot to improve but well

Im happy because this is a sound wich i can enjoy till next emotiva sale and get the xpa-5 and keep building the system now i hope that after some use the sound keep improving

And im also happy because the old amp wich in fact was my first audio equipment can give some last battles. ;D and i think ill keep it with the infinitys for a second sistem

Bob,

You must have missed where the OP showed that his old amp had nearly the same output at 8 Ohms and 4 Ohms. Amps having a decent design will produce from 50% to 100% more output at a 4 Ohm load as it does with an 8 Ohm load. This alone should tell you this amp is not suited for driving 4 Ohm speakers like the Emotiva Reference Series speakers.

Now you also need to notice that the OP is used to driving Infinity speakers having an Efficiency Rating of 102 and that the ERT-8.3 is rated at 87. To produce the same volume level as the Infinity speaker, the OP would have to feed the 8.3s 32 times as much power... and that assumes his old amp is even able to drive a 4 Ohm load.

Bob, in this case, the amp most definitely does make a difference. A HUGE difference.

Yes Ronny, I missed that important piece of info, sorry.
You are, as others as well, totally right in your assessment.
I'm all in with you guys. :)

Glad to hear you got things straightened out. Still, I think you'll be even more pleased when you get some power behind those 8.3's

Cheers

hello sorry to post till now but has been a busy day at work.

Well i dont know if to be more afraid or not because well my budget for this is not unlimited like the solutions of buy 2 xpa-1 and you will listen the heaven its not posible right now to me and if i could do it, it will take away that boxie sound ?

now my original plan was to buy a xpa-5 and get my home teather done, but this would make the 8.3 sound decent?

i know that my infinity are super eficient speakers and my old gradiente moves them with easy and the emotivas are a very diferent animal, but i never spected get a lot of slp, but a decent sound and what bothers me its that even at 80 db was so plane the sound not linear but plane and dull. my room its small wood celing , stone floor its temporaly because im moving with my girlfriend next month ( so thats why i dont have a lot of money for this and well the pesos vs dollar diference)

i suspected the amp was not to the task but i didnt think it gonna be so terrible

i really preciate all your answers because last night i was like o what i have done and i got a lot of answers right away

Francisco,

I want to apologize for missing vital piece of info from your original first post (the amp).

You are a super cool dude, and I would love to be there in person where you are so I can help you from the best of my knowledge.

If I could see your room and your bank account, plus your girlfriend; that would give me a clear picture on your real situation. Take this in the most positive way Francisco.

You have my full 100% cooperation at helping you ALL THE WAY. :)

And all together here, with all the great friends and Lounge members, we will provide you with even more than what you ask for. That I give you my word.

Cheers,
Roberto

I just finished reading this thread very carefully. :)

Here's my findings:

First, thank you everyone to not have panicked and jumped all over me because of my missing a piece of information, you guys are real class-act fellas. :)

Now, to you Francisco: easiest way to verify all there is to know about life ;) , is to borrow a decent power amplifier, from a friend, or an audio dealer in your neighbourhood (or 'neighborhood'), and use it to power your ERT-8.3 loudspeakers.
Then I'm convince that your impression will now change for the better. :)

You do that my friend, and then report back to us, and we'll take it from there.
How that sounds Francisco?

Roberto

Where in Mexico are you?

* Frank, you can see an audio dealer, and explain to him exactly what you just told us here, and then give him a collateral (your car keys, or credit card, or girlfriend ;) ), so you can borrow an amp from him just for the day, that's all.
And tell that audio dealer that Roberto said it was fine to do so. :)

** Yup, the XPA-5 should also do the trick very nicely indeed. :)

I was in Mexico City back in 1977. We spent about two weeks there, right downtown.
I was with my girlfriend back then, Marlena (Marlene).

-> Now, let me ask you this Franky.

1. Do you intend to have a 2-channel Stereo only system or a Multichannel surround sound system?
Because you might not need the 5-channel XPA-5 amplifier.
But just a Stereo amp.

2. You are going to need a Preamp!
Or just plain Stereo, or Surround Sound Processor; depending on your goal(s).

______________________________

* I visited your link from your first original post, and carefully read all the specs.
Now, I won't go into all the details one by one, but instead I'm going to ask you to be the judge here, and you tell me what you see, and what you think:

A) Your actual Integrated Amplifier, Gradiente: PRO-2000 MKII, 1969-70 vintage:

_________________________
_________________________

VS. B) Emotiva XPA-5 Power Amplifier, circa NOW:
==> {You need a preamp with this.}

____________

*** But like I said, you perhaps need only a Stereo amp (eg.; a pair of UPA-1 monoblocks, or an XPA-2), and also a Stereo preamp for Volume control, sources' switching, blah-blah-blah...

Comprende Franko?

From what I can tell now, I'm sure Francisco will be on cloud nine, compared to his older setup. :)

Can he do better for the money? Perhaps not!

One thing is 100% sure though, it's that he is on the right track.
