A shootout between the A5+ and the Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 powered monitors ($399/pair) revealed fairly dramatic differences in sound quality. That speaker uses a Heil air motion tweeter instead of a standard dome, and it was immediately obvious the A5+'s top end isn't in the same league as the airmotiv4's. It's nowhere as smooth or as resolved; cymbals' sparkle and shimmer are more natural on the airmotiv4. That speaker's treble has an open quality, closer to what I hear from electrostatic or planar magnetic speakers. The soundstage focus is better, and there was a greater sense of depth with the airmotiv4.
The A5+'s bass texture and definition are good, though not as taut as the airmotiv4's. But the A5+'s low-end was fuller, more dynamic and powerful. That makes it a better speaker for rock. So I like the A5+, but the airmotiv4 is a more transparent sounding speaker. Both speakers sell for $399 a pair.

As a highschool student back in the 1970s I bought a pair of Infinity Qa's. The speakers had an EMIT (electro magnetic induction tweeter) tweeter that sparkled with life at a time when Bose 901s and Klipshhorns were thought to be very good. That little two way speaker sent me on a life long quest to own and achieve the best sound that I could afford, then and now. I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on electrostatics, planar ribbons, and dynamic speaker systems. I had to have a system for rock music, a system for jazz, a system for blues, a system for classical, and all I really wanted was a speaker that could sound good with all of these genres. Well I found what I thought was the answer, NHT, until now. The Airmotiv 6s to my ears have to be the best bargain in Hi-Fi on the planet. This speaker system caught my fancy because of its tweeter, built in amp, and price. It is not the most beautiful speaker to look at but close your eyes and you will hear things that you never knew existed in recordings. I am not an audiophile journalist, but I am a life long enthusiast, and I have to say after 40 years, the magic of the Qa is back. Thank you EMO!

Welcome to the Emotiva Lounge. I am happy to see you love the Airmotiv 6 speakers. All of the Airmotiv line is quite exceptional, especially for their price. Great sound is what Emotiva is noted for, whether it be speakers, amps and source components. Enjoy your new toy and come back and share your thoughts when you have listened to it longer. How are you using it in your system?
