I think it is a mistake to close out the entry level amps that introduce people to emotiva. I realize their other amps are still a bargain but to most people starting out into separates buying a upa5 or 7 is easier to justify. Then once they are hooked by the sound and quality most people upgrade and stay loyal customers. I have two friends that currently wanted to buy a upa5 but are unable now since they are discontinued. Plus there seems to be a pattern with continually releasing new versions of amps all the time and different classes. I am sure some of it is to entice those with new things and upgradeitis......but it doesn't make for a very stable catalog for those of us who are long term fans or listeners. And like a previous poster said it kills our resale values on what we have currently if we need to sell it to upgrade and it is now discontinued!
I would think that having a standard chassis and internals maintain some consistency would be better for prices and repair issues. With the added benefit of not having to constantly retool the factory...... I think if they wanted to have new models to release all the time they could do it more like a automobile line in which minor cosmetic things change from year to year. One good example besides the face plates would be to have hot-swappable front displays so people could choose either analog or digital meters.
I for one am not happy with them being discontinued. And I know some friends who are not as well. I was thinking about getting the xpr7 when it is released but if it is discontinued in a couple years then I don't want to be stuck with an out of production item even if it has a 5 year warranty.

Well according to the last Emotiva podcast, the only reason they are being discontinued is due to poor sales! Not enough people are taking advantage of this great model. The powers that be at Emotiva think it is a great amp to sell, but with poor sales numbers, they can not justify it. They stated that the vast majority of their customers prefer the higher power amps for their systems.....

Yeah I heard that....... but still..... all the heavy lifting was done. Amps are already designed. Factory is already set up. There is not much related to advertising to just keep their spot open on the website. Only thing they would have to give up to keep them as a viable product is some warehouse space to keep a few in stock. Which wouldn't be much if they don't move a lot of them. Although with all the good publicity lately I would have to assume they would be selling more as time goes on........ I am all for coming up with new designs and formats that have better selling potential. But don't see the benefit to scrapping a well thought out and implemented design. seems like throwing the baby out with the bath water.............but what do I know?

I ordered a UPA-7 last week and the Tech told me on the phone that they were planning on shipping them out on the 15th of Feb... Does anyone know if that has changed, I hate to be a bother to the folks at EMO if someone else out there knows the answer. Thanks. -BC I called Emotiva this morning and they stated that if you have already reserved your amp and submitted payment info, that your amp will indeed be going out tomorrow! It is the first shipment. Then next shipment will go out March 20th......

Makes total sense to kill a product line that is not selling in volume at a time when AVR's continue to deliver ever improving sound quality and performance. Just read a few reviews on the recently released Anthem all-in-ones.
For me separates are about headroom and dynamics and 125wpch is just not gonna cut it.

Got it! Hooked it up. Hehehehehe!
For those of you on the fence, consider me another owner in the + column. With 104db efficient mains, this amp is just plain perfect for me. I'm going to give it a week or so to let it sink in before writing up a detailed differences/impressions post. I can say this much now, there is no way I'll push this to even a constant 100 watts. The headroom is just amazing.

Got mine and I love it! I feel I should be getting my friends in on this amp but with them going away, most won't be able to get one in time

I just called this morning and was told the UPA-7's were out of stock and discontinued. I then asked if they had any refubs in stock "B stock". She said yes, same warranty same 30 day return and $549. It shipped this afternoon already So if anyone still wants one you better jump on a refub....On that note, does anyone have a b stock? was it good as new?

Got the UPA-7 "B-stock" today Looks like its brand new..so scratches scuffs or anything else, still had plastic over the led display area. UMC-1 coming tomorrow along with some Blue Jeans cables. For now I'm using my denon 5803 as a pre/pro to test out the amp.

That 5803 is pretty serious. How does the UPA-7 compare to the internal amps on the Denon?
And congrats on your deal.

I was thinking about getting the xpr7 when it is released but if it is discontinued in a couple years then I don't want to be stuck with an out of production item even if it has a 5 year warranty. You do realize that almost everything in the consumer electronics world goes "out of production" within a couple of years right? I don't see how you're "stuck" with an item just because it's out of production.

The 5803 is great, I'm only replacing it due to lack of hdmi's and I figured I can still get close to 1k for it. My UMC-1 just came in today but the blue jeans cables won't be in till Monday In the mean time I listened to Linkin Park DVD-AUDIO and used the Denon as a pre pro. I'm running Klipsch thx ultra 2's with 4 of the subs "they have their own amp" www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/thx-ultra2-overview/ Then I listened to the same tracks using the Denon on its own, bananna plugs help Me ears were hurting but there was no distortion from either setup..The EMO sounded warmer/fuller. The denon was sharper sounding..not sure thats a good thing..The subs are just insane so when i get the UMC-1 set up I will test EMO pre/pro - amp vs denon with the subs off.

You do realize that almost everything in the consumer electronics world goes "out of production" within a couple of years right? I don't see how you're "stuck" with an item just because it's out of production. I understand your point that technology is in a constant state of flux but normally cosmetic changes are first or smaller incremental changes before dropping complete lines.... I view amplifiers like I do screens for my home theater. e.g. my screen will last for decades (because the technology doesn't change) even though I will purchase multiple projectors during that time..... Same with amps, I will use the same ones even though I may go through many different recievers or pre-pros during the same period due to the changing technology (hdmi 1.4, lossless sound, etc) But the amplification technology doesn't change. I know we are going to see different iterations of products from emotiva and move from class A to H to A/B or T....or whatever the flavor is. But a good design is still a good design. I would have preferred to see different chassis, cosmetics, and like I mentioned earlier possibly hot-swappable digital or analogue displays. Heck even touch screens. Something else to set them apart from the competition. I have to imagine with all the new tablets on the market that having a small touch/interface would have to be fairly reasonable price wise. Maybe this will work well for them, and I hope they have fantastic luck with it.......I just can't see how starting over from scratch on a new line (with all the r&d costs) would amount to better profits.
