Gigantour: Megadeth, Motörhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil. Fri 1/27 - Mohegan Sun, or Sat 1/28 at Madison Square Garden.
Now I need to decide which show to go to.
I wish I had your problem KSE. I say go see the Gigantour @ MSG on Sat 1/28. IMO I think when musicians play MSG they put a bit more effort into their performance. Years ago when Axl n crew performed at MSG the show was excellent. He was only 1.5 hours late too vs. the 2 hours + he puts people through now.

The Iron Maiden song, Ghost of Navigators is pure genius. It's currently my favorite song, well that or Nomad. Iron Maiden has great lyrics and usually tell thought provoking stories in their lyrics. Bruce Dickinson has a great voice and has excellent control of it. Some of his solo work is excellent too. Check out Omega and Arc of Space. I only wish they had produced better recordings. It's hard to get the sound I want out of the recordings they offer.

1. Polyrythmns FTW! (or the whole Djent style) 2. Probably Meshuggah 3. I really like the polished digital production of alot of the new stuff, but have learned first hand that unless you sound good live, you aren't worth your salt. 4. Like was mentioned earlier, the in-fighting amongst genres has grown old. Also the lack of diversity in sound from the bands themselves grows tiresome. Your whole CD and and your next few albums shouldn't all sound the exact same...*cough (Sevendust) cough*...

Whooooooooaaa! Other people listen to Dissection! Sweeet! Glad I found this thread. Huge metal fan.
Never heard of Seventh Wonder. Will be on my list of things to check out.
1. What's your favorite genre of metal?
Most anything that can trace a lineage back to the rock bands of the 70's. Thrash, Death, Power, Black, HEAVY, Progressive, etc... etc...
2. What are your favorite bands in that genre?
Too many to list. Iron Maiden is normally my go-to, but in no particular order, Opeth, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Death, Nightwish, Epica, Blind Guardian, Kamelot, Eluveitie, Testament, Megadeth, Anthrax, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, At The Gates, Emperor, Equilibrium, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Carcass, Queensryche, Sabbath, Priest, Motorhead, Anthrax, Atheist, Ayreon, Destruction, Agathodaimon, Tristania, Kreator, Rhapsody, Vanden Plas, Virgin Black, Symphorce, Baroness, The Sword, Sigh, Sepultura, Bodom, Amorphis, Extol, Exodus, Mastodon, Boris, Nile, Meshuggah, and I'm tossing in Molly Hatchet to see if anyone notices; and because their cover art is metal as all get out.
And that's just the pile that needs to be sorted back onto the shelf.
3. Do you like polished digital production, good production, good analog production, descent production, or terrible production?
As long as it doesn't sound like it's been recorded in a tin can inside of a dishwashwer, and I can turn it up, I'm normally okay with it.
4. What's ruining metal?
Metal is doing quite well. I get tired of the angry vibe it gets, causing people to overlook it's creativity and complexity. This goes for those that are can't get past the distortion, or think it's only distortion and noise... as well as those that thing metal exists to "break stuff."
I know it's different for everyone, but I have rarely, if ever, listened to music, and metal in particular... as a "catharsis". I genuinely like the music and enjoy it, and have spent the last decade trying to convince others that that is how I honestly feel. I have to be very, very careful that I don't judge other music fans the same way as well, wether it be nu-metal, rap, or punk. I still get lumped into the angry teenager category that I did when I got my start in hardcore punk... and probably will still get lumped into it a decade from now when I'm in mid-30's.
One of the more interesting conclusions I've had is that I have NEVER had anyone ask me "why" I like metal so much. They either are of the metalhead tribe and will quickly begin rattling off band names and genres like a common lunatic (I enjoy that part), or respond with a simple "oh" when they learn of my music preferences. Very polarizing subject.
I've also been fascinated at how many brutal death metal fans have a hankering for Yes. Myself included.

I love revisiting this thread. Brings back a lot of memories from my youth. I thought some of you might get a kick out of this. Below is my original concert jean jacket from 1984 that still hangs in my closet. Painted by my 8th grade art teacher. Below that are my sons who did an impromptu JAM session to some Maiden that I had playing in the garage while doing some woodworking. 2nd Generation Maiden fans in the making? We'll see I guess

Anyone else notice the proliferation of spam which accompanies videos people are posting. I don't appreciate spam of any sort on the forums I frequent and these advertisments attached to the videos people are posting are a clear violation of forum rules. Insidious.
