^Black would be my choice of color in that room. YMMV and all that...

I have these in navy blue, 63" length. They are mounted outside the window frame with a really nice brushed nickel rod from the same website. Light does make it's way in through the sides, top and bottom with this mounting method. Very tiny pinholes of light make their way through the curtain itself during bright daylight. But, they're a whole lot better than the Wal-Mart blackouts I had tried before. Those were like standard curtains, they let in so much light. Plus these have a silky smooth quality to them.

You may not like this.
You can go to the hobby shop and buy a few sheets of heavy construction paper in white or anoter color that won't be too bvious behind the blinds.
Cut the paper to size and tape it to the inside of the window behind the blinds. From the outside the window will just look white, almost like the blinds (so it won't look trashy).
From the inside, you won't see the paper except for around the blinds. The construction paper is heavy enough to totally eliminate light and it looks fine. It is super simple to put in and even easier to remove.
I used to be a day sleeper (while I was still working) and my master bedrrom had those same basement style windows. I blacked them out this way and left it for years.

The best type of "blackout cellular blinds" include tracks on the side that prevent light leakage. That way you don't need anything else and you can open them still easily.

I'm tempted to buy these. They're cheap enough to try out.
