Any gun owners here? « Thread Started on Dec 2, 2008, 7:41pm »
Just seeing if there are any gun enthusiasts' and wondering what you have. Currently all I have is a DPMS Sportical AR-15. I would have preferred to have a handgun for concealed carry first, but I felt certain events dictated otherwise.
I don't want to turn this into any sort of political or opinionated thread, so if you don't have anything nice to say, please refrain from commenting.

Subject: Fw: HISTORY LESSON
A Little Gun History Lesson In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, some 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964.. From 1964 to 1981, some 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!
It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too!
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind him of this history lesson.
With Guns.............We Are 'Citizens'. Without Them........We Are 'Subjects'..
During W. W. II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!
Note: Admiral Yamamoto who crafted the attack on Pearl Harbor had attended Harvard U 1919-1921 & was Naval Attache to the U. S. 1925-28. Most of our Navy was destroyed at Pearl Harbor & our Army had been deprived of funding & was ill prepared to defend the country.
It was reported that when asked why Japan did not follow up the Pearl Harbor attack with an invasion of the U. S. Mainland, his reply was that he had lived in the U. S. & knew that almost all households had guns.
If you value your freedom, Please spread this anti-gun control message to all your friends!

Oh and I'd like to purchase an AR or something but I don't have the funds for everything else I need like a large safe amongst other things. I plan to purchase 1000 rnds of ammunition and the hand gun though as soon as I possibly can.
Yea. Right. As if any of that would have been any different... I am a military-trained gun owner and I think that was really out of place on this forum. Please keep the political crap where it belongs, thanks.
I own seven weapons, including an 1873 single-action Colt 45 "Peacemaker," a pre-ban Kalashnikov AK-47, a Browning BAR, and my favorite weapon to shoot, a Sig P-239 40 cal.

Not to mention that history lesson is mostly false... keep the political BS for well for the people that may believe it...
I own a lot of guns... and for a handgun my favorite for the past few years has been my Beretta PX-4, so much fun to shoot and so reliable as all beretta's are known to be.
My friend has the same Sig P-239... it isn't too shabby to shoot itself, I enjoy it at the range...

Go with the USP compact by H&K they make great quality weapons. I have owned one and a Beretta 92f and a couple others and I would take the HK anyday over all of them but that was just personal preference. Beretta makes good stuff too in fact I would love to get the sub 9mm CX4 I think it is. Awesome looking

I would love to get a .308, but I don't think that will happen in a feasible time frame.
I own several but my favorite is a Makarov IJ-70 9mm.
Big +1 on the Makarov - I picked up one of the few doublestack 12 rounders that were imported back when I was running a shop/range and it's still one of my favorite little pistols. Great carry gun, utterly reliable, and the fit 'n finish on the early Russian imports was excellent...

My dad actually purchased a Beretta PX-4 Storm for me for X-Mas last year. I really like it. A buddy of mine shot it and couldn't stop commenting on how smooth it was compared to his. It is one of the few handguns that has a real safety switch, which is kind of nice when you are at the range.
I looked at the Springfield Arms, but they didn't quite fit my hand. Another one I would say to look at is the Smith & Wesson M&P. Lots of people really like this gun. I was between it and the Beretta and still hope to get one some day.

^ A co-worker of mine has a S&W M&P. It felt much better in my hand than my other co-worker's Glock 27. Probably because I have really fat thumbs, lol.

.308 is my "perfect" round - great ballistics, extremely accurate, good stopping power, and the ammunition is plentiful. I've got an inch pattern FN-FAL in .308 that I re-parkerized and tricked out - absolutely a trip to take to the range. For a long range piece, I accurized a Savage 110 heavy barrel in .308 (one heck of a "sleeper" if you are looking for inexpensive performance) and with some vintage Lake City Match Grade ammo it will routinely shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yards - at 200 we go out to about 2" but I think that's more my issue than the rifle...
