WOW!!! OK, in all honesty this was the last thing I expected today. My excitement level just went from 1.5 to 8.5. Dear XMC-1: you make it so easy for me to save myself for you and for our life-long marriage. Dreaming of you always...Dan Laufman for president in 2012!

What are the significance of photos 1 & 2? Other than that the XMC-1 is at a certain stage of completion, could someone explain? Much thanks

It even has " FROUT" left and right inputs for 7.1 analog! Looks like the silkscreen on the backpanel needs to be fixed.

It's a teaser, to me it shows that Dan is working on a Sunday getting ready for EmoFest. He knows we're all anxious, I think he's probably proud and wants to show off the team's work, without giving away the big debut for the 'Fest goers ... but you know all that. I like seeing what the display ... displays, it shows or implies the UMC's flexible input assignment capabilities are intact, and adds more detail on audio and video states. The inside looks very clean, but I really like seeing the ins and outs on the back - now we can really start to see if it will handle what we each want.

What's everyone make of the connector below the RJ-45? It looks like USB or eSATA, but it's lumped in with the "Ethernet" label? Attachments:

I really like the fact that they have a 7.1 input. Looks like they slipped in an AES/EBU digital input as well. Also the tiffany style pre-outs a very nice touch.
I would be curious if bass management can be applied to the 7.1 input or is this a pure direct in/out.

From the XMC-1 product page: 2 - USB Type A (front & rear). audio file player (supports FLAC/ AAC/ WAV/MP3)Since that is the only USB Type A input on the rear, that would be my guess.
