Just posted: www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/subwoofers/ultra-12Excerpt: "We can recommend the Emotiva Ultra 12 Sub to anyone interested in a value product that will deliver tight, musical bass in almost any size room. If you think you want more output or your room opens up and is on the larger size, then by all means buy two. For the rest of us, this is the sub to beat for manufacturers everywhere. It somewhat redefines value and raises the bar significantly - so much so that it just might embarrass most if not all of the competition."

All I gotta say is as usual, EMO punches the competitor's right in the face. I know AH's Gene Dellasala and Dan are friends, but I trust their reviews and candor within them.
This test makes the JL look silly @ $2100.00. Imagine four Ultra 12's to one of these?
How can I not buy two of these for $850.00??? How can I not do that?

I have 2 U-12s since July 2010, and I'm enjoying immensely this excursion in the 2 subs arena. It is a beautiful thing. The review just makes me tingle with confidence that what I've been saying about the performance of these subs all along are now corroborated by objective measurements and persons with undisputed technical knowledge. Sometimes the 'fanboy' monikor can be so misguided. Go Emo, go! ;D jamrock,

I have had two of these bad boys since May. This article just confirms my feelings.. Obviously not the best sub out there, but for the price you cannot go wrong. I feel two of these are better then a number of much more expensive single subs.

I feel two of these are better then a number of much more expensive single subs. I wish they had come out with the black matte finish to begin with. Had they done that I probably would have bought one or two of these instead of the Hsu that I have now. There's nothing wrong with the Hsu and I think it is a really good sub but there's something very appealing about having two subs (just like using two XPA-1's). ;D Also, it was nice how the article pointed out the construction/build quality of the Ultra 12. That is something I've found true about all the Emo gear I have or have had - they don't skimp on materials or design. The Emo speakers I had were of very nice quality even down to the plates, screws/bolts and other little things that were used. Though their prices are low compared to the competition, that doesn't mean there is any reduction in quality.

ANybody who spends that kind of money on a regurgitated car sub should be slapped by a big long wanker many times over. Id take a single Ultra 12 over it just for SQ alone. I myself think the Ultra is a good sounding sub for the money and is close enough in performance to an eD A5s-300 to be seriously considered, especially if budget is a big priority.

I have two of these and I would agree with this statement. I go and look at my U12's and nothing jumps out at me as "wow" amazing parts. I would categorize it as a sub that performs beyond it's pricepoint much like most of EMO's other offerings.

Emo does not cut corners. No, they aren't extravagant, and they don't spend money on cosmetics, but they do make sure that the money is spent in the right places and in that sense they do not skimp. Like Porscheguy wrote in another thread, open up one of their amps (or speakers for that matter) and take a look and compare to something that costs 5x as much.. what parts/construction in the more expensive one is all that much better? I also point to the review of the Ultra 12 just posted, and how they commended the quality of the unit.

See above post. ;D I'm sure a site that gets direct advertising revenue from Emotiva and "reviews" one of their products is going to be REAL CRITICAL of a budget sub. So much that their in depth review basically consisted of just an SPL response curve. Lets not get carried away on this one. BTW how come there were no test plots other than a generic spl/frequency response curve plot posted? Ive noticed with Audioholics that different reviews posted garner differing "in depth" measurements that are actually posted up using different testing methods and standards. I would have like to have seen some HD and delay plots posted instead of a "sounds great" so we recommend it review. And this isn't a poke at the Emo sub either as I think its a good sounding budget sub. This is directed at Audioholics.
