Haven't purchased my UMC-1 yet and things like this really scare me. I realize there are plenty of perfectly functioning UMCs out there but yikes, is it a software or hardware problem?

I have to agree with Mr Majestyk, you have gone far enough, I think even feeling you had to reload the firmware shows a dedication that many would not have. If you were a voluntary alpha tester that would be different but you bought a shipping product. Emotiva should be damn happy to have a dedicated customer like yourself.

Thanks for the help everyone... I think I'll try installing the firmware one more time in the safe mode and see what happens. I'm north of the 49th so I'd rather not have to send the unit back to Emotiva and wait for repairs/replacement. I really like the umc-1 and appreciate the difficulties in bringing a new product to market.
Let's go see what happens!

Is there a firmware process for Mac computers? If you have an intel cpu based Mac, you could install Apple's bootcamp and a trial version of Windows on it and should be good to go? I ran Win7 RC on a 1+ year old Macbook no problem.

Well... I've attempted Safe Mode and now, the UMC-1 won't accept any direction from the laptop. Before it went all the way to 99.9% and now.... nothing.
I guess I'll make the call to Emo Tech tomorrow morning.
The real pain is that we're hosting the family for Easter next weekend and I was bragging about my new processor. Hopefully, tomorrow goes well. Thanks for all your suggestions.

send it back. Ask for $20 for every hour you wasted on that brick. That's fair for beta testers right? $20/h? WHY ARE THEY STILL SHIPPING THESE THINGS? Why are they not holding off until the next firmware update!?

Well, just to bring everyone up to speed, I spoke with Tech Support at Emotiva on Monday, attempted the firmware upgrade and finally, it was successful. That unfortunately, is the end of the good news.
The unit still shows no read-out on the display and continues to cycle on and off. So... no real choice but to send it back to Tennessee. I have to pay return shipping up front but I'm hoping to discuss this with Dan when I get the chance.
Bottom line is I really like the UMC-1 and I hope the turn around is quick so I can get back to my hobby.
Now, anyone have a spare receiver they want to send up to Winnipeg for me to use for 4 weeks???

Only an hour's drive and no duties/taxes on a warranty item...stop at Canadian Border Services and get them to annotate the return with a cover letter from Emo? It will save you a few hundred $$$

I know this is an old thread...please bear with me. I just bought a UMC-1 after listening to and navigating a friend's UMC-1. The one I bought was "as-is", mint condition, with the "Loading......" problem.
Can someone please send me a link that works for the firmware, utility, and PDF How To? The links in the threads are dead. I would love to fix this UMC. I'm going to look for noise on the regulated lines (3.3v,5 ) as I noticed that Emotiva used low-end caps throughout. I would really appreciate ! MosFetMan
