Looking for some advice.
I have a Onkyo TX-SR805 with Monitor Audio RX6's for fronts and RXLCR center, RX1's surrounds. Paradigm DSP3400 Sub.
Want to just use the Onkyo as a pre/pro, so not sure which amp is best.
The XPA-2 and let the Onkyo drive the center and surrounds.
The XPA-3 and let the Onkyo drive the surrounds
Or let an XPA-5 drive them all.
Will be adding an ERC-1 (Sept) and UMC-1 (When working correctly) Before Christmas

advice, or for someone on a sunday morning to throw a monkey wrench into the thought process...
that is a pretty powerful head unit the Onkyo 805 and it is stable rated for 4 and 6 ohm speakers. well thought out.
your speakers are rated 6 Ohms Power Handling (RMS): 125W Recommended Amplifier Requirements (RMS): 40-125W
so I actually think the XPA 2 is quite a bit for them,
you know what I'd consider with these facts? two mono block UPA1 for some sweet stereo use, and the Onkyo and them for some 5.1, 7.1....

I never looked at that option as i was "fixed" on the XPA series. Ummp......now i've got more to think about. Keep in mind that i'll be replacing the 805 at some point. I don't believe it is the "ideal" Processor for Future need's. I appreciate the advice.

I would lean toward the XPA-5 for your situation.

With your stated plans I would pick from the following combinations for a 5.1 system.
1. XPA-5 2. XPA-3 + XPA-2 3. XPA-3 + (2) XPA-1 4. (3) UPA-1 + UPA-2 5. UPA-5
There are other possible combinations, but these are the most likely choices one would make, depending on their budget and HT/music ratio. Choice #4 is my first choice if both budget and music are big factors in your decision.
If you are not planning on purchasing in the next couple of months, the XPR Series power amps would also be thrown into the mix of power amps to be considered. Of course, the size of your listening room, the construction materials used, the furnishings, and your listening habits all need to be factored into your decision. Have fun evaluating the options available to you. ;D
