There will still be bugs in the code no matter how final it is. The question becomes will there be enough for people to return their UMC-1s? RIght now there are a lot of people still waiting for the 30 day return window to begin. I think Emotiva needs to get that window closed sooner than later for their own financials. I appreciate the time they've provided but I believe it was needed since the shipped product was not production quality. I'll wait for the next release but I'm still on the fence because of problems I've had. Did you listen to the last Emocast? It doesn't sound like they are expecting a mass exodus. I guess that we have to wait and see; What Emo is expecting has not proven true with the UMC so far.

Actually the issues I'm still having include:
On optical, switching from DD 2/0 to DD 3/2+LFE produces loud pops which is repeatable.
HDMI audio loss on a U-Verse DVR after extended pause or FF/REW. Not consistently repeatable, but happens 1-2 times per night.
Power down failures. The unit never fully turns off and doesn't trigger my amp to turn off either.
Loss of video signal if I adjust the volume while the unit is booting up, requiring a restart. This was a fun one that happened only once so far since I rarely try to modify my audio while it's loading.
I've called, emailed and posted about these issues. I even had a few emails with Lonnie over the audio popping on optical issue. It wasn't resolved because I never got a response back after trying the suggestions and still having the issue.

Actually I was wrong about my audio issue as it's actually PCM -> DD 3/2+LFE that creates the pops. (non-HD to HD signals)
The last request was for the firmware version which I sent, then silence. As for the HDMI audio drops, it was a "I've got a Uverse DVR and don't have any issues. We'll look into it." That was may 12th. They still exist as of Beta v7. (current)

Just an observation....There seems to be a relatively common thread of posts in the UMC-1 forums about calls and notes to Lonnie that aren't answered (by anyone)....and a similar thread of posts that the answer to all questions is to call or email Emotiva and Lonnie. It would be nice if there was some consensus "Don't post, write or phone instead" doesn't sit well with me if folks aren't getting answers or responses.

I sent an email to Lonnie yesterday and received a reply within the hour. While he is not usually this quick, he has always replied within a reasonable time.

I'm still waiting for his answer on the level of the speaker test tones which would be very helpful in setting the reference level for Dolby Volume. I've asked once by phone and once in writing.....

just one poster tried to answer the question from 2 pages. The reason no one has responded to the post is because we have no idea what is actually being fixed in this release.....so why speculate, guess?

In addition to not knowing what Emo is trying to fix keep in mind that some of the things Emo thought they had fixed in prior versions did not get fixed.

Actually, reading back in theis thread, I don't think anyone has posted a list so based on Dan's comments that this may be the final beta/release, I am hoping for the following fixes:
1) Consistent handshaking with my FIOS box so that I don't sit there watching DU1 flashing until I hit menu and then exit (or volume up/down). I thought Beta 3 fixed this but alas, no, it's happening again.
2) EMoQ passing the ambient test for the microphone without any user intervention.
3) EMoQ automatic settings for distance and polarity correct AND repeatable
4) EmoQ setup setting speaker levels so that 50.5 on the volume dial is actually the proper reference level so that Dolby Volume works correctly
5) DTS xx working consistently (no center channel drops, etc) (reported by others and I know will effect me)
6) Occasional lockups in the setup/parameter menus that require a reset (power switch on back panel turned off and on) eliminated
7) Popping between tracks/recorded sections eliminated (reported by others and will effect me)
I am also waiting for the new remote to replace the little one that I received that requires it to be pointed directly at the UMC-1. Hopefully the new remote will have a more powerful I/R beam.
I do not expect, nor do I care about, a fix to bass managment which I view as a non audible issue. I don't expect the passthru issue to be resolved (I believe Emotiva has said that this is what it is)...and I don't think it effects my use of the UMC-1.
I am hopeful that additional documentation will come with the new Beta.....for example an updated, but beta, downloadable manual. Ditto on updated "update" instructions for those that aren't reading this forum and haven't seen the thread on that topic.
I believe there are more issues that haven't effected me (yet) and I haven't focused on, so I am not listing them.
I know that at least 11 eyes will read this post and say I'm bashing Emotiva....I'm not, I'm just listing the problems that are and may effect me in one post. I think these will be fixed prior to the code going final.

For example, I could not care less it EmoQ doesn't get the distances correct but I would like an improved video pass through. Dave.

I'm only after 3 things:
1. 4-5 second delay locking onto PCM sources 2. Sporadic (but it happens a lot!) inability to detect dolby digital streams, requiring a power cycle to fix. 3. Selectable 9kHz steps on the AM tuner.
Apart from that nothing really has any effect on me.

2. Sporadic (but it happens a lot!) inability to detect dolby digital streams, requiring a power cycle to fix. Did you try swapping inputs instead? It might work. The sad part about that issue is they they've stated that they've made it as accommodating as possible and may not ever get fixed... This one would be the killer for me.

At present, direct stops the LPF redirecting the bass to the sub, but doesn't redirect it to the fronts and it's simply discarded- i.e. direct mode only works if you have your fronts set to full. You will often want non-full mode for movies, but full mode for music (when you're using direct).
