iceman66, You mean it gets even better? Thanks, it was almost surreal receiving these amps, something I've just been reading about for months. briank, Glad you're here mate, those are my thoughts exactly but the XDA is just on pre-order now, when will it ship? Hi VisN, Sorry, in the vein of some of the other threads I was being a bit facetious concerning 'burn-in'. I have had my UPA1s for almost 6 months and they sound the same now as they did the day I hooked them up - awesome!

Hi VisN: I read your story from the initial post to the last, with great fascination. I live in Jamaica and I have a problem similar to yours. I have been lurking for weeks trying to make a decision. Still have not made up my mind but I am glad you are happy with your purchases. From all the reading I am doing most people seem happy with Emo. I hope to hear more about your set up once you have had a chance to really listen to them.

iceman66, My reply was a bit tongue in cheek, I know what you meant.
dada, I'm pretty convinced that all of Emotiva's amplifiers sound good. Some of the differences noted by posters on this forum are small and dependent on environment etc. I still will get a UPA-2 to use in my bedroom or little TV viewing area. Even as I write that I realise how ridiculous that sounds, 125W per channel is now considered small. I think back to my first NAD 3020 amp and Mission Cyrus speakers and still remember the joy it brought me. Times have changed, just ask Usain.

The 2 channel rig listed in my sig is actually in my computer room - so much overkill for a nearfield listening situation ;D I have a Yamaha RXV995 with Revel F12s in the bedroom and a Pioneer Elite integrated amp with an Oppo 980 connected to a pair of Inifinty in-walls in my garage, with an old Energy 8"sub, I like having music where ever I am.

Well I managed to finally listen to the amps via my laptop in 2 channel mode. Given the limitations of my accompanying equipment there is not much I can conclude from the listening I did.
My impressions thus far though are that these are incredibly powerful amps. There is no hardening of the sound even when pushed hard. They are nowhere near bright sounding, in fact in my current setup they sound a bit too lush. They are extremely clean no hiss or hum present at all.

To anyone following this thread and wanting to purchase a UPA-1.
Rest assured the amp is everything you've read about and more. It is a consummate and smooth performer. It has way more power than anyone would ever need.
I've been running it via an 18 year old NAD CD player in a room really unsuitable for good sound reproduction through a set of speakers tuned towards high frequencies and it sounds good. With better accompanying equipment it would sound out of this world. In my setup I don't hear speakers boxes.

YES THE XDA-1 ADDITION WOULD BE HUGE PROVIDING YOUR SOURCE HAD A DIG OUT. Two UPA-1's would provide true dual mono separation. You can't go wrong with any of these EMO amps, though. Stack that XDA-1 on one of those EMO amps and you've got a killer rig. Add the EMO cd player later! Good luck with your system...

Since you mentioned looking at getting into Vinyl, I would consider the USP-1. It has a fantastic Phono Preamp. Better than my Cambridge Audio 640P by a long way. You would be hard pressed to get a Phono Preamp to same quality for the cost of the USP-1. Also has a great Headphone AMP if you go that way.

rocky500, I definitely want to invest in vinyl again but I'm a bit unsure about exactly when. I'm considering getting a Luminous Audio passive preamp (really inexpensive and seems to be well regarded) and a HLab PFMOD crossover to tide me over till then.
The next upgrade I want to do is a CD player and I REALLY want to get one of the Rythmik subs. The sub will have to be imported which adds considerably to the price so I have decided just to get only what I need for now and the immediate future.

At the risk of reviving an older thread...
I took my USP-1 and UPA-2 over to a fellow Emotiva owner who has 2 UPA-1's with the intent of trying to see if I wanted to go the UPA-1 route and if he wanted to go the USP-1 route.
We compared the USP-1 x 2 to the UPA-2 and concluded the UPA-1 sounded fuller and more aggressive than the UPA-2
The USP-1 over his Marantz AVR using preouts was a significant improvement - source was Oppo-BDP80 RCA outs and a Rega p3 with external phono-pre.
I am now looking at 2 UPA-1's as have also sourced a 3rd one locally here for center duties with the UPA-2 for rear channels
