I received my UMC-1 early last week. It took about 15 mins to set it up, Emo-Q ran perfectly (nailed distances and made very reasonable corrections), and the unit has been absolutely perfect since I got it. Sound quality on all inputs, including from my SACD player, is wonderful. Video quality is exceptional.
I held off buying my UMC all year as I read the horror-stories on this forum but either (1) all of the various firmware updates have resolved some very real problems, or (2) there are a lot of people out there who have too much time on their hands and have reported many minor and/or imagined issues, or (3) some of both.
I don't post much but I figured there may be many other fence-sitters out there who really wanted a UMC-1 but have been scared off. I'd encourage you to go ahead and make your purchase -- the water is fine :-)
Great work Lonnie! I know the past year has been painful, but this is a great pre/pro at an amazing price.

Its an interesting challenge for Emotiva. Clearly the forum has helped them to create a very passionate and involved clientele, and I have no doubt that it has contributed significantly to their success. After their success with amps and speakers, diving into pre/pros (far more complicated software) was a big risk and the forum model bit them in the ass with the UMC-1 for sure.
Overall my guess is that the forum has been overall more of a positive than a negative for Emo.

It's good to hear the good reviews for this great pre/pro. I got mine last month, and had a few issues with it right off the bat, but like I said in other threads, the problems went away and it's been nothing but great. After I took the time to play with the many different settings, this thing has been the best unit I've ever owned. It may not be the best unit for plug and play operation, but if you're willing to take the time to set it up properly, it rewards you with wonderful SQ. It's much better than I ever imagined, and it should serve me very well and for a long time until the upgrade itch comes back.

"Bit them in the ass for sure." I would agree that for the first half of the release of the UMC it did probably effect the sales of the UMC. However I picked and prodded in the forum to help with my decision to buy a UMC. After seeing the announcements and commitments from the company's heads I decided to go ahead with the purchase. Reading the forum made me believe that the issues would ultimately be fixed, Lonnie and the rest of the Emo crew did actually care, and the sound quality vs price was outstanding. In short, it sold me. (I got my UMC-1 in September.
I've been happy every since, even without downloading the newest firmware. I figured I would wait for the next update to fix the last few bugs, a month or two will not drive me crazy.
Anyways cheers to Emo and the rest of my fellow audiophile enthusiasts! Especially my fellow Emo owners....

what also helps is that many EMOTIVA customers are also audiophiles who own OTHER manufacturer's designs, so we're able to contribute technically to the pro's and con's of a product. How can emotiva create and build even BETTER and improved version of their already successful products if their no constructive criticisms.

I bought mine solely because of information I gleaned from this forum, and the dedication that Emotiva has towards their products. I believe that Emotiva makes and sells enough of a variety of quality products that will keep me interested and committed for a long time.

Bought my umc-1 back in March and i still get blown away from the SQ of the unit, and i have had some pretty decent harman kardon, onkyo, and marantz receivers. The only issue i have is once and a while i get center channel drop out, but i just change the channel then back and the sound comes back! No big deal! Well worth the money!

Can't speak for the UMC-1 but I bought the XDA-1 mainly on forum reviews As there was almost no other reviews and the only one I really saw elsewhere was where the reviewer apologized and said that he couldnt detect a difference between this and the oppo.

I hear he got hauled off in a white van. Apparently he's back in his cage.

I hear he got hauled off in a white van. Apparently he's back in his cage. Cute, chuckie... I ordered the UMC-1 yesterday. It only took me 2 years to come around to buying one even though I was on the pre-order list at one time. We'll see how it works for me. I figure I can't lose either way. Either it is as good or better than my Integra or it isn't. Simple enough. But the reason I can't lose is I get the 40% off card with it (B stock in case you are wondering) PLUS $50 emo-bucks good toward future purchases. If the UMC doesn't thrill me I can sell it for nearly what I paid - keeping the upgrade card of course. See recent ebay sales for final prices - as much as $525 without the upgrade card. If the XMC is a dud (I don't think it will be) and I decide not to buy one I can sell the upgrade card for maybe half it's face value - maybe more. The reason I think the XMC won't be a dud is the learning curve Emo has gone through with the LMC and UMC units. The LMC is/was by most definitions not that great - I owned 2 so I feel qualified to speak about it - it was lousy! From all I've read here the UMC is much improved and should work just fine for me. We'll see. Anyone want to hazard a guess as to when the XMC might debut? Some time this year?

I might get one just for the 40 % card. Good luck Knuckle!
