Was wondering: a) what is the power consumption when the unit is iddle b) what is the power consumption when the unit is in standby mode?
I know, the manual states that for standby, the consumption should be no more than an average nightlight. But how much is that ;D is it like 1-10 Watts, is it higher than that ...? And in iddle mode, there is no spec ...

A bulb style night light will use about 7 watts. A LED night light will use a 1/4 of one watt. I am only assuming but the amp in standby probably wouldn't use more then 10 watts.

Curious. I have seen Kroll amplifiers that consume 250 Watts in iddle and 100 Watts in standby. Ands they are 10000 dollar amplifiers.

I am curious about that too. I have three amps turned on but at a very low volume almost all day long. Just the downside of having active crossovers.

I think you will find standby is 7-10 w, powered on without a signal would maybe be 40-60w and very low level listening would't be much more and be most likely under 100w. in-fact I doubt the XPA-5 would draw alot of power unless your watching movies/music at reference levels or higher.
The XPA-1 uses about 90w idle I think from memory, while folks think these useage figures are high in reality the cost is very little. Here in Australia a 60w light bulb run 24 hours a day for 365 days would cost about $70. That sounds expensive but remember thats 24/7 for a whole year non-stop.
The bigger issue with electricity waste at home shouldn't be the cost to our wallets but rather the cost to the planet as it would be about 1,000kg of CO2 (carbon dioxide) for this amount of electricity use over a year.

IIRC, Lonnie once posted that the XPA-5 only used 4 Watts in standby. I cannot remember if the power consumption in idle mode has ever been disclosed on the Lounge. I think one of the Pro reviews did mention it, but I don't remember what they said. I only remember thinking how low its consumption was for such a powerful amp.

User's Guide for XPA-5 is showing, 4W in Standby and 90W Idle, although Vincent is telling me they are redoing the User's Guide for the XPA-5, so are these numbers correct?

Does anyone know if the EMO XPA-5 has:
Does the XPA-5 Amplifier contain high-quality circuitry in the power supplies to reject R.F, line spikes and other power-line problems in so that no power line conditioner is required, except to plug the AC line cord directly into the Wall Outlet?
Thanks

I know that I run my UPA-7 directly into the wall outlet. I live in S. Fla., lightning capital of the world. We have spikes all the time and I have had no problems. It is fully protected from all fault conditions according to emo's description. The XPA-5 has the same description.

Thanks MickeyHarlow -- will just run it right into a duplex outlet at 115Vac RMS, 60Hz., 1 Ph. Good Ole' Sinusoidal Waveform. I checked my breaker for that cct. and it is 20 Amps, and most other ccts. in house are only 15 Amps. so that is some good news. Amp coming mid-month I am told, YaHoo.

XPA-5 consumption. I remember a M*A*S*H* episode where Klinger was going to eat a Jeep, so an XPA-5 should be a little easier to swallow...

Ah, heck at $0.035305 per KW-Hr is it worth the money to keep the amp on for a couple hours [Grins] pushing it hard for those complex Musical Passages and High-Level Effects with a high SQ?
Anyone have a LOWER $ figure for their KW-Hr. bills?

Anyone have a LOWER $ figure for their KW-Hr. bills? You are paying 3.5cents kWh wow that is peanuts! I pay 19.85cents AUD which is cheap compared with Europe. AFAIK there is a 1W standby power directive in Europe which is going to be reduced even further to 1/3W. Emo gear is a long way off compliance.
