I've been looking at the Wyred stuff myself. I need a really good pre amp and it doesn't hurt to get an amp from the same company, synergy and all that.
I'm trying to find out if the Wyred amps lean towards warmth or forward, so far I've read both! I guess the only way to know for sure in your system is to try. They have been turning heads though.

Judging by the sound of my XPA-2 and other people's comments about the XPA-1... I'd say it's a rhetorical question. The XPA line of power amps are too skycrackingly stunning to even begin to reconsider.

LOL. Why don't you ask the question on a Wyred4sound thread. You'll get the exact same response, except in reverse. Most accurate statement yet. I have Wyred Amps, I like them. In my setting, Class A wouldn't work due to heat anyway, which is why the Parasound Halos had to go, and they were A/B. Most amps out there today sound pretty good, regardless of class.

I've been watching W4S too, with the costs so close this is more difficult than some of the other match-ups. I've been comparing the XDA-2 vs DAC-2 and the (yet unavailable) XPA-7 vs Mini-7, on these the cost difference is at least double. Though I haven't heard the W4S I'd give it serious consideration, I like the company and I like the efficiency (power, heat, weight), I expect the SX-1000 sounds good - and they have a trial on that model. You know in this group you're going to rightly get a preference for the XPA-1, but it's also a good choice.

I have the W4S STI integrated, and MC7 multichannel amp. All 250 WPC. Had them around a year. Love them.

i own 2 Wyred4Sound ST500's. They are nicely made, have plenty of power, run cool and are clear, powerful and detailed. Having said that they lack the musicality of my Musical Fidelity class A/B and i am thinking of replacing htem with the XPA-1-L's, i will do direct comparison when possible, all class D i have heard seem to be boring and lack emotion after living with them, the prior 2 class d amps i have used i nolonger own but i own 10 year old Musical Fidelity class a/b, take these comments for what they are worth :-)

I'd take the w4s. I'm currently running Red dragon audios 1000 ice monos. Awesome amps. Same modules as w4s

Note that the current Elite do not use ICEpower as they did not like the sterile sound, they have custom built their own Class D circuits. Both Wyred4Sound and Bel Canto modify the standard boards to improve SQ, i am still left unconvinced compared with good class A/B. NAD amps are very sweet but are pretty ugly other than the Masters Series, M25 is a beast. Class D has improved immensely in 10 years

Quality Class A/B does good sound. Class D has made great strides, especially in light of efficiency and future power costs.

Lot of Class D amp modules have this problem but it can be fixed. It's best to have proper impedance matching from start to finish.

Over the course of time, I 've bought and sold many pieces of equipment. I don't try to draw any conclusions by what people buy and sell. Often it comes down to specific need or purpose for a component. I loved my Parasound Halo Class A/B amps, but they ran too hot for the environment I was placing them in - that's why Class D amps became a better option for me. Unfortunately, metal racks weren't going to pass the household WAF.

true, but it is still intersting especially considering the cost, space, weight and heat advantages that class d provides. It is just getting so difficult to evaluate equipment, many dealers have restricted stock, Emo is mail only and showroms never seem to sound like home. You can make costly erros and i have bought and sold more equipment in the last 10 years than i did in the previous 20. I am currently doing a direct ST500 vs. mF HT600 comparison, never done it with my mini maggies. i'll keep you posted. Never evaluate when cold, the ST500 sounded awful until it warmed up, it has been boxed for a few months and obc=viously needed to stretch it's legs
