My XPA-1's have both a trigger 'input' and a trigger 'output' port. I assume (the operative word) that as soon as the input receives a signal, it is relayed to the output port who, in turn, passes the signal onto its cable going to the next component - i.e., daisy-chaining.
Does anyone know is the signal received by the input port immediately passed/relayed to the output port OR is there some delay?
Thanks!

roadrunner,
My Emotiva XPA-5 ships this Monday (03/02/09) so I can't try it yet but in anticipation of wanting to be able to remote trigger the XPA-5, I've ordered a 3.5mm mono cable (M-M) and set up my harmony remote to trigger the XPA-5 when I turn on my Onkyo TX-SR705.
Here's what I did. On the Onkyo, go into setup and "activate" Zone 2. In the Harmony remote software I created a new device called "Emotiva Amp" (the Harmony software actually sees it as "Onkyo TX-SR705 (Zone2)" but I renamed it "Emotiva Amp") and set it up to only "power on" and "power off" (don't set any other setting, i.e. inputs, volume control, etc.). I added this new device to my activities and now when I turn on for example "Watch HDTV" it powers on my Comcast DCH-3416, then powers on my Sharp LC-52D64U, then powers on my Onkyo TX-SR705 and then powers on my "Emotiva Amp" (Zone 2 trigger, I hear the click and see the little green light come on indicating power to Zone 2). when I turn off "Watch HDTV" everything turns off as it should. When my amp gets here, all I should have to do is connect the mono cable from the R1 output on the Onkyo to the +12V trigger on the Emotiva and it should work. If it doesn't or if it does for that matter, I'll report back here with my findings.
Thanks to all who provided help and or links to getting this done. What a great forum and here's to hoping the XPA-5 will be even better!
Later...
*EDIT* Worked like a charm! I bought a cheap mono 3.5MM (1/8") cable and connected one end to the 12V Trigger Out on my Onkyo TX-SR705 and the other end to the 12V Trigger In on the Emotiva XPA-5 and set up my Harmony remote for the new device (Onkyo "Zone 2") which even named Emotiva XPA-5 Amp.
Thanks again to all who helped!

I want to connect the "+12V 15mA MAX. Trigger Out" from my 663 to my new Emotiva XPA-3 "Trigger Input" using a 3.55mm mono cable so the Amp will turn Off&On with the AVR. I'm sure I'm not the first one to try this with the 663, so can anyone who has done this already let me know if you had any problems?

Just wanted to add this information for anyone using a Monoprice 3.5mm stereo cable as a trigger cable for their Emotiva amp.
Inside the Monoprice 3.5mm stereo cable there are 3 wires: red, white, and yellow. The white cable is negative and the red cable is positive. Discard the yellow cable, you don't need it at all.
Figured this out a few minutes ago and it should save some people some time in the future.

Howdy, I am looking for some help from anyone who has an Onkyo 805 receiver and any Emotiva amp (mine is the XPA-5) I just got my amp today (sweet!) I am using the mono cable from the Onkyo out to the Amp and inside the Onkyo amp the capability for the 12v out has been activated. However, when the Onkyo is turned on, the amp is not. On the inside door of the Onkyo there are two buttons that say zone 2 & 3 pressing zone 2 and selecting "source" turns on the amp via the 12v trigger but there are two problems with that. I am running 7.1 and in the Onkyo manual, when using zone 2, you will lose the two surround back channels limiting you to 5.1 only, the other thing is the amp stays on after turning off the Onkyo and the only way to turn the amp off is to eithe rswitch it off by switching zone 2 off or by pressing the buttons on the physical receiver and selecting off for the zone. I talked to the folks at Emotiva and they were supprised as was I. they recommended to put this on their forum to see if anyone with this receiver had the same issue and what they did to overcome it. they also recommended to get a 12v dc plug in power supply with center pin positive, plug the output into the amp trigger in port then plug the power supply into the Onkyo's switched outlet to get the amp to turn on and off with the receiver. I'd like to open this up to anyone with similar equipment that faced similar issues and what they did to overcome this. I suspect most of you were not running 7.1 have no such issues, it's really only people running 7.1 that would really have the problem of the surround backs being lost.
I did in fact talk to Onkyo and they said yes that is how they designed it. how stupid is that, you designed it to make me lose my 2 surround back channels to get the 12v trigger to work? I am a little worried about the advice that I was given by the Emotiva staff about buying the power supply and plugging it into the receiver's switched outlet, because, in the manual that came with the amp it states: "Never switch anything that plugs directly into the wall with this trigger connection. this action will damage the unit and VOID THE WARRANTY" this is on page 15 of the manual. what do you all think i should do?

Dsully,
I know it's been some time since you posted this, but I'm a new Emotiva owner (XPA-3), so I just now saw this. The short answer is yes, you can use a 12V AC to DC converter for this. Mine was a 400mA, which is ample.
This is how you can make it work: ======================== - Buy an 1/8" mono tip from Radio Shack (about $2) - Cut the tip off the end of the 12V adapter cable - Replace that old tip with the Radio Shack 1/8" tip - Be mindful of the +/- connectors, as it won't work if it's reversed. Just try it one way, and if it doesn't work, try the other way. - Plug the adapter into your switched outlet on the receiver, then the 1/8" plug into the trigger input on the Emotiva amp.
Works like a champ for me - it powers up and down via the receiver.
Cheers!

Just wanted to add that with my Yamaha 663 and my UPA-2, mono cables did not work. I had to use a stereo cable.

I think we need a "report post" button for the forums - it might save Dann a little work trolling through every post too.

I fixed it to where only registered members can post. For some reason didn't have that turned on in this section. Thanks.

Hi Folks
Not sure of these forums are active..but have a quick question on my XPA-2/XPA-3 that I recently purchased on ebay. They both have only trigger input and no trigger output? Are these gen-1 emotivas since the 2nd gen ones seem to have both triiger in as well as trigger out?

The Gen2 models also have Gen2 on the front panel under the model number in dark print.

Thanks geebo. I am in a situation where I have a XPA-2 and XPA-3 connected via 3.5mm cables to my Denon X4100W AVR (trigger 1 and trigger2) and when I switch on the AVR only the Emotiva that is connected to trigger 1 comes on whereas the one connected to trigger2 does not . I interchanged the cables (to ensure it is not a bad cable) and the same thing happened, only the trigger 1 comes on. This used to work well before (ie both XPA's coming on when I switch on the AVR) but now I have to manually switch on the XPA that is connected to trigger2. Any reason(s) why this is happening?

If trigger one works with either amp and either cable there might be something going on with AVR. One of these connected to trigger one should get things working for you if both amps can be trigger on with trigger one. emotiva.com/products/accessories/et-3

Just daisy chain the trigger from the first amp to the 2nd His amps don't have trigger outs but I suppose a Y adapter might work if the current is adequate...

I thought he said he had xpa-2 and 3 and I was pretty sure they both has trigger out too....but I could be wrong maybe for G1 they didn't. My G1 XPA-1 has in and out. So do my UPA-1's IIRC Failing that use a ET-3 should work fine as long as both going on together won't trip his mains breaker

Does anyone know if I need a mono or stereo cable for a Yamaha A2060 to a XPA Gen3 for the trigger... Nearly all triggers are made for mono 1/8" /3.5mm connectors as they really only need a two wires a + and - connection. I'd recommend using mono cable but stereo cables will normally work without any problems, stereo cables normally just end up with two wires as - and one wire as +.
