Perhaps its femininity but I feel no need to go below 20Hz and just want realistic effects at moderate volume with no audible distortion, ie. want the amp to be loafing along. I get that in spades with my current set up. Having 8cf subs is not my style.

You'd be willing to spend that type of money for only about 6db more sound (UPA-7 at 125 watts would be roughly 110db vs. XPR-7 at 350 watts would be 115 with your speakers)? Do you find yourself maxing out your UPA-7 now? I'd find some Cerwin Vegas at 99 db sensitivity and your UPA-7 would hit very close to 120 db (much higher than the XPR-7 could get you). On the plus side you probably wouldn't need your sub with those CV's. Don't worry how they sound; at 120 db you won't be hearing too well after a while. I started out in audio with Cerwin Vegas. They did pretty well with my 50 wpc stereo receiver back then. I thought that they had given up on home systems and only into car audio? My UPA-7 is just fine with my current speakers. However, I'm doing some forward thinking. I know that I will be changing my mains and will need more power. But since I have space & ventillation concerns, I need just one amp that will solve both issues. Plus, the 2 things that I can never have too much of are bass & power. There is also a testosterone factor involved. ;D I think that they're still just 2-channel orientated. I last cared about CV back in the early 90's when all I wanted was volume and bass. I thought their SQ sucked but they were loud and proud. ;D I still like warmth in my sound as well as acoustic realism (hence my PC-3) but bass thumpin' I'll leave to the kiddies (like I was in the early 90's). Might want to look at Zu Audio as well. It's likely going to be cheaper to get super efficient speakers (98-102 db sensitivity) than go for a 7-channel amp with 350 watts per @ 8 ohms.

But, since it took out a restraining order on me and shacked up with some dude 2 counties over... ;D sarcasm included free of charge

My equipment are stored behind smoked glass in a H/T cabinet. I could not give a rat's ass about appearance. I'm into build quality and operational functionality. I look at video and listen to audio. I don't sit there staring at the components. How can the appearance of a 5-channel amp cancels the need for a 7-channel amp? Let's get real! I hear you, but in my aspiration to a 11.2, the XPR-7 would power the 7 "big" three-way speakers. I would add 2 XPA-2 maybe, to power the other 4 speakers, which are smaller "two-way" designs. If there's no 7-channel amp, I need to rethink a bit. A UPA-1 for the center and 2 XPA-5 for the L + R sides (2 x main, height, wide, surround, back surround) would total 11. One XPA-1 and two XPR-5 also, but this seems just past the border of insanity. Two XPR-5 for a 10.2 saves one less speaker and one less amp/box to buy and find space for. Does this make any sense? ;D Use 2 XPA-5s + an XPA-2. If you have the space and proper ventillation, you should be good to go. Good luck my friend! ;D

My wife often ask me why I need a V6 2+2 car with over 330 BHP and 0-60 of 5 secs to drive on Florida roads which measure much flatter than an Oppo BRP 95. I can outrun the cops and most everybody else if I really feel like it! Same mentality with power & bass.

I was hoping to hear more about upcoming products at Emofest. My interest mostly is with the XMC-1 so I was keen to hear about features that have been 'locked in' and when it will be available.
Once released I hope that using my 40% off certificate doesn't slow the delivery timetable too much either.
Dave.

A big thanks to all the folks at Emotiva for putting on a great show! The sampler CD is a great demo disc. Kudos to everyone who worked on it. Of course, it was good to check out all the gear, current & future. The Airmotives sounded awesome, with amazing detail & bass response from such a small package. I really liked the look of the XPR-5. The light bars and heavy black front looked really good. 'good to meet Lonnie, too. 'hope the folks at Emotiva are enjoying a well earned day off. Thanks for sharing your holiday weekend with your devoted fans.

From a very reliable source; a pre-order list will begin very shortly before the release. Stay tuned and sign up at first chance you should be o'k. Any particular feature(s) that you are worried about?

Any particular feature(s) that you are worried about? Feature wise, I don't want too much above my UMC-1. An improved EmoQ or similar. Conventional bass management. Fully balanced stereo input. Fully balanced stereo output. (I will buy 2 XPA-1's) Untouched video pass through. Improved SQ. All things good from the UMC-1. The first point is still unanswered, the others have been confirmed. There are features on the UMC-1 that I don't use. Dave.

I would like to see a survey that determines what percentage of homes with a home theater set up is actually using 9.2 or 11.2/.4 channels. I would think thast it is just a minor percentage. Maybe a better survey would be "who would LIKE to have a system with those channels"? Its all in the way the question is asked isnt it ?? I still think it would have to be a who would BUY into this many channels. No one can sell likes.

The UPA-7 is probably the best HT amp I've ever owned. I am very happy to have mine (and no, I didn't buy it on clearance.) This brings up a thought, having the UPA is there any realistic need for more power in a normal household ? I realize all speakers a different loads, different sized rooms, but in reality how much power do we really need ? Lots of folks go for receivers that drop to 50 or 60 watts per channel when it does 5 or 7 channels whereas the UPA holds its watts. I know when you bought it, you were happy, it is great to see you still happy.
