My X-Ref 10 takes up to a couple of minutes to wake up when playing music from the UMC-1 in stereo mode. Haven't tried any x.1 signals yet. I haven't tested this thoroughly but the wake-up time seems to vary quite a bit, I assume depending on the content being played. Emotiva told me this is normal. Still it sounds like yours doesn't activate at all, so maybe you got a faulty sub.

Yeah, I hear ya. But the auto sensing circuit is all about sensing the signal at the sub's inputs. There is some threshold that has to be met to activate it. BTW, my X-Ref's volume is at -7db while the sub's level in the UMC is +2db. I understand that there is probably an integrator on the input signal path, and once a threshold has been met it will switch on. It would be nice to know how many dBu is required. Today I added +9.5dB in the UMC and subtracted the 9dB in the sub with some success as now I can listen to the afore mentioned CD without the sub switching off at level 14 volume, take it down to volume level 12 and it will switch off. So a work around not a solution. Other bass laden CDs won't be a problem. Single bass notes probably don't generate enough voltage in the integrator to activate the sub. I think that emo should have used the trigger to turn the sub on just like any other amp. I can't see the +6dB @45hz in movie mode being hugely beneficial unless you are a bass nut. If you were you probably already have your EQ's set for that anyway. As I have read somewhere allot of movies have had +10dB added to the LFE already which people want to remove not enhance. thanks for your help

Have you also tried setting the crossover on your mains to something other than full?

O'k. The Enhanced Bass feature works only with full range front speakers by directing bass that goes to the sub also to those speakers. Therefore, EB seems to work only when there is a .1 signal is in the mix. I don't think that it works with a 2.0 signal. Therefore, I believe that your problem could be that you have your front speakers set to full, so the UMC-1 is not sending any signal the sub. If you set your front R&L crossover above 40Hz or, as Geebo has his set up, you will get info going to the sub. Please advise.

The umc-1, by my under standing, has a full range crossover, thus if no crossover is set for the mains the full signal will be summed (L+R) and sent to the sub section for processing. The LP filter for the sub section will then be applied as per the crossover setting for the sub.
I have replicated geebo's setup (the only difference is the Oppo vs ERC-1) and it made the detection worse, I was initally surprised, but then I thought about it and it made sense (I hope my thinking is correct here). If you set the mains at 50Hz you send everything below 50Hz to the sub section. If you set the mains at 200Hz you send all the frequencies that most subs can handle to the sub which will be a lot more information and therefore more easily detected. Of course your mains no won't sound very good.
