Well, if bluray is going to be a challenge, I have a mountain of DVDs that I could rip to the hard drive and sell the hard discs or confine them to the attic. Including video storage seems to be a sure winner. Very few people buy CDs anymore. So why the ability to store CDs then?

I have never thought much about Music Servers, so I'm very lacking in knowledge here. But, it would seem to me that the music servers that I have read upon, only store and distribute music. They seem to be a bit pricey too, but I know that Emotiva can overcome that handily. If my thinking is current, then I think that Emo should consider going beyond the current offers of "me too" players and offer video storage and multi-zone distributions also. That would give them more market appeal. If I'm wrong, please note that I have already plead ignorance ;D I think Music Servers will become more popular. Not sure that Video servers would catch on. I was seriously considering a Music server, but went the other route with a USB media player. Basically does the same thing, but you have to supply the storage device by either USB stick or hard drive. Very high quality and super convenient to catalog your music files, and supports CD resolution, as well as hi-res formats. Some Music Servers will stream too. Video storage woud be a plus, but would require very large capacity hard drives (or several smaller ones). As technology continues to improve, dedicated video servers are a possibility.

Once I installed my music server I no longer had any need for a Cd/SACD/DVD-A player. It is absolutely the best music player investment I ever made.

I still have a couple of disc spinners, but having all the files cataloged is sure convenient. No doubt about that.

What would be the difference between a ERC-1 and ERC-2. I can get a ERC-1 local for a good price. (€ 175,00)

While SACD is superior to CDs, how many people are using them? There's still not a strong offering in that format to warrant it, IMO. Maybe a BD-A interface of some sort, but all my BD-A disc have some sort of video menu that would be difficult to navigate without a monitor of some sort. I have/use three SACD players with a modest but growing collection.

Not sure why this is...? Outside of that I do not believe there are any differences worth mentioning. Grab that 1, you'll love it.

The ERC-2 has an extra output connector, and an updated transport mechanism. The difference between the two is very slight so if you can get a great deal on the ERC-1 that is the one to get.

The ERC-2 also has a fully balanced analog output, whereas the ERC-1 is single ended only.

The ERC-3, as it was announced at Emofest this year, is on my next to buy list not because it can play the 2-channel DSD of a SACD but for its DC-1 back (analog) end. The ability to play just the 2-channel layer is a nice addition, but not worth the upgrade for me.

I really hope they use Tiffany style bolt on RCA outputs instead of cheaper types . I am pumped it will play SACD ! and in the perfect world it would be great to have HDCD as I own a fair whack of those as many of you also do .

I suspect the reason it only does 2-channel is that it only has 2-channels of DAC.

I have the ERC-2 and it does play the Redbook layer of my Norah Jones SACD. However, I had to call Emotiva to have them send me the upgrade CD-R. BTW, If you have the same problem with the ERC-2 as in the ERC-1, with the first fraction of a second of the first track being cut off (only on the first play of track #1 upon each playing of the CD), there is also a CD-R to correct that flaw. Also IMO the slot loader in the ERC-2 (very smooth!) is an improvement over the one in the ERC-1.

Seems to me about half the SACDs are limited to two channel anyways, with no multi channel option.

Isn't there an improvement in the linestage for the ERC-2? Like equivalent to the XDA-1?

Talked with Lonnie about this at Emofest 2012 (last year) and that's when he told us (I was in a group) about the ERC-3.
