I can't believe how good sounding this pre/pro sounds!!! After a week this pre/pro sounds phenomenal. My system sounds completely in a different league after removing my THX Select Onkyo TX-SR875 receiver. I was using the Myryad MA360 for the front 3 channels with the Onkyo. Movies were great with the Onkyo, but 2 channel music was un-involving. Now with the UMC-1, my cd's sound much more resolute with a better timbre and timing. The difference is so great that I am smiling from ear to ear whenever I have my system running. I was hesitant giving up my HQV Reon video processor in the Onkyo, but the Torino in the UMC-1 does just as good of a job on 480P video source upscalling. The UMC-1 does a great job of de-interlacing 1080i sources as well. I also got the Myryad MA240 when I got the UMC-1. I now finally have all the amps I need for now with the a100 X-Mini. What a great little zone amp. In conclusion I can't stress enough that the sound quality is that of something that cost much more. The deal sealer was the upgrade certificate. If you are looking for a hifi pre/pro at a bagain basement price, look no further. ;D ;D

Great to hear! So many people have been concerned about buying a UMC-1 because of the early issues, which the FW updates have resolved to most peoples' satisfaction. It's great to hear good reports from new owners. Personally, I love mine.

thanks for posting your thoughts on the UMC-1 and glad that its working out for you. It is one fine sounding pre/pro indeed. I can't believe how good sounding this pre/pro sounds!!! The video was always the weakest link for me. (I was coming from a DVDO edge) Good to hear you are having good results.
(you do know that the XMC will have no video processing, just a pure passthrough)
2ch audio is this unit's strong suit compared to your average AVR. Did you run EMOq? We would like your thoughts on how it compares to Audyssey MultEQ XT in your room.

So, would it be fair to say you like the UMC? ;D

I'm not just happy... I'm thrilled!!! Even the FM section is exceptional. When listening to classical, the system now has a more lifelike overall sound. With the Onkyo it was like looking out a dirty window. The sound was there, but uninvolving. Now I find myself either tapping my foot, or bopping my head... like I said, way more involving. ;D ;D ;D

As to your questions bootman, Yes the 2 channel performance is way better than my Onkyo. In a differnent league. Yes I did run the EMO-Q. It set my front speakers to large, so I did't have any bass coming out of my subwoofer. I posted a question in the "Stupid questions area" and found out that the sub will get no info when an analogue 2 channel source is being used. I fixed this by manually changing the crossover frequency to 80 Hz for the fronts, 80 Hz for the center and surrounds and 80 Hz for the sub. Now I don't have to have a .1 source for my sub to work. Overall now the sound is on such a higher level of fidelity and resolution. The Audisy Multi Eq gave a overall warmer sound to the Onkyo when turned on, but did not help the resolution. To sum it up the Onkyo is dead and uninvolving when compared to the UMC-1, even when using the Onkyo with an external amp (the same I am using with the UMC-1). Does the XMC-1 not have any video processing? Here's a quote from the description:"HDMI v1.4-Bit Perfect Switching with Video Processing Bypass – 4K compatible". If it has no processing, what does it have to bypass?

First time I have read anything good about the FM performance of the UMC-1. IMO, this is the UMC-1's weakest link.
I like listening to our local radio on a Saturday evening so I hope the XMC-1 can improve on the UMC-1.
Glad to read the OP is happy with the UMC-1.
Dave.

The XMC-1 will pass through video only, so no processing.
Dave.

Seriously folks - are there many other things more gratifying than a fellow enthusiast that's fallen head over heals in love with his system again!? This is the kind of joy that I wish we could all bottle and use when most needed! matrixmaster, keep the excellent vibes coming!

Does anyone know why the XMC-1 has only a pass through rather than video processing like the UMC-1?

Does anyone know why the XMC-1 has only a pass through rather than video processing like the UMC-1? My guess, reduced complexity. With bluray players like Oppo how many really need video processing in the XMC-1. Dave.

Does anyone know why the XMC-1 has only a pass through rather than video processing like the UMC-1? I believe it was a conscious decision by Emotiva to not get into video processing. As topend has stated above, there are several options already for processing video. Let the XMC do what it does best, i.e. sound processing.

Does anyone know why the XMC-1 has only a pass through rather than video processing like the UMC-1? And most of the HDTVs these days will upscale almost anything you throw at them, you could set your UMC-1 to pass through the video to see if it will be a problem.

Does anyone know why the XMC-1 has only a pass through rather than video processing like the UMC-1? STB set at 1080i (easily processed to 1080p by display) check Bluray native 1080p - check DVD scaled to 1080p by player - check Unless you have a VHS player, (no analog video input BTW) what will you have the XMC do? Wii's are not native 1080P gaming like xbox or PS3, so while I feel bad for Wii users, if you want real HD gaming, upgrade. If you need more advanced video processing get a dedicated VP. Much more flexible than any AVR for videophiles.

The only source that really benefits from the Torino core is 480i TV that my daughter watches. My Panasonic does an ok job, but the Torino set to 1080p is better. This is not by any means a deal breaker for me. I am still on the list waiting for the XMC-1. Does anyone know if the warrantee is transferable on my UMC-1 if I should choose to sell it?

Yes, the warranty is transferable. Call Emotiva with yours and buyer's information and they'll transfer it. Along those lines if you order something from Emotiva is the warranty automatically registered to you?

Unlike some brands, you do not have to go online and register the product.

Wow thats great. ;D That gives me options, and keeps the resale value of my UMC-1 higher. What a great company to deal with. ;D. Not only do I get audio nirvana that sounds awesome at rediculously low prices, I own something that will hold it's relative value longer. Kinda like getting my cake and eating it too!!
