A 12" sub that will fit in about a 3' cu enclosure that goes low not interested in the upper bass frequencies, the crossover is set at 40hz. I don't want to really pay much over $500.00 just for the driver. Thanks why is the xover set to 40hz. Assuming that this is for ht use then the xover should be set to 150. Anything lower and you run the risk of losing information in the lfe track. sent from my phone. sorry for the short response No way. 150hz is way too high! That is really localizable. (is that a word) but you know what I mean. I could only imagine how bad that high of xover setting would sound

Sounds like something bose would do lol The localization of bass is due to harmonics of the bass In much hIgher frequencIes. There is plenty of research out there that shows most people lose localization between 200-400hz. This is something that was discussed by boz at emofest and something that that I did not fully understand until brought to attention and checked out further research. I did make a error in my original post however, at 150 Hz xover. 120 Hz is what I should of posted. That is the frequency range in which can be used on that track. That should always be left at 120. The xover for your speakers should be set at their respective xover settings to control the additional bass being sent to subwoofer. Setting the lfe to anything below the 120 will result in all info above your xover to be lost that has been encoded on that channel. sent from my phone. sorry for the short response. Tony

Tony 120 is a little better. But I can localize a sub even set at 80hz xover. 120 would drive me insane. In fact I actually tried it last weekend. It lasted 5 minutes till I went back to 80hz I dont lose anything below 120hz. My elite has a setting called sub plus. It redirects the lfe from left and right to the sub in this setting.

Well, to be fair, his post looked to me like he was talking about his sub crossover and thats what it looked like you were commenting on, not the LFE channel. When you posted it should be 150hz, it's a little nutty looking. As far as the LFE, 120hz is standard.

But does it direct the lfe to your left and right above your subs low pass fIlters poInt. What you are localizing is the harmonics of your sub. See www.soundandvisionmag.com/blog/2012/06/08/subwoofers-separating-best-restIt's not a total breakdown of what is happening but it shows you what a 20hz tone produces in a subwoofer and the harmonics that come with it. sent from my phone. sorry for the short response. I was not exactly right saying sub plus redirects the lfe to the sub. Anyways. 120hz sounds bad to me

He should get 4. One for each corner. It's not a subwoofer, it's a pillar to hold up the roof ;D
