After Mrs. Monkumonku finds out that you bought another sub, the only direction you are going to be concerned about facing is the corner down stars in the basement!

Well as long as I can move my audio gear down there then I am fine with that. Although I still have to figure out which way to point the sub. ;D

I am definitely not a DIYer, but i was able to put an Owens Corning 703 superchunk basstrap in my corners, built a frame around it, and my wife upholstered it. It looks good and is awesome the way it improves the sound. I also built absorption panels for first reflection points on walls and ceilings. Again, the wifey did the upholstering.
I share this because I have very limited woodworking skills and even I could do this. Total cost was about $350.
My next step is to build diffusers. This might be beyond my skills, but for the amount of $$$ you save it is worth giving it a shot.

I just ordered an Xref-10 from the super crazy price sale so it should be here next week. There is really only one place it will fit in my setup, which is behind my left front speaker. So the left main will be visually blocking the sub. The sub will be about 8-10" behind it, maybe a wee bit more. Question: If I face the sub forward then it will be facing the main speaker. What do you think is better, to face it forward or have the sub facing to the left? The equipment rack will be to the right of the sub with not much space between them so I don't think I should face it to the right. I guess I could try it all three ways and even facing the wall I suppose, and see what sounds best, but I thought I'd pose the question here and get people's opinions on it. The other sub is on the right side, slightly beyond the right main speaker and thus is not blocked by anything. The other sub is also a down-firing one. Any thoughts? Place the subs where they are best suited for your decor and where most practical considering the various uses of the room. Then get yourself a good sub EQ. I recommend the anti-mode 8033S. You will have good bass and the missus will be happy also. Perfect harmony ;D

One corner has more room and that's where the Hsu is right now, and then the other side has a much smaller space so that's why the Xref-10 is a good fit. I do have a sub equalizer for the Hsu, the Velodyne SMS-1. That does a good job but it can only do one EQ curve at a time (but with multiple subs - they just all have to have the same settings, though). Well I guess that's what makes this a "hobby." I'll have to experiment and see what happens! And find out what is so great about the DSC everyone says is so good (dual sub club). ;D

Place the U-10 where directionality (you can point it towards the room) can help to achieve room balance. It might have to be driven a bit harder though. I wished that you had a U-12 because it can take quite a beating. But the U-10 should be able to do it. Report back

As previously suggested, stack the subs.
The eq will be similar, just extra output.

Stacking subs only increase output. Multiple placements achieve symmetry. Of the 2, symmetry in more important unless you have very difficient subs, and this is not the case here
