Ok, Now that I can see your signature -- Just hit the power button on the xpa -5 Keep your temper under control. Just because crawling around on the floor looking for the ideal spot to place your sub woofer can be a pain in the a$$ is no reason to get physical and go around "hitting" things. ;D ;D ;D Sorry, I couldn't resist the opening. lol

Ok, Now that I can see your signature -- Just hit the power button on the xpa -5 Crawl test didn't work when XPA-5 is off. NO sound from the sub at all. I turn on the sub by hand, my XPA-5 is trigger by USP-1 and I didn't turn on USP-1 so XPA-5 is off. I tried both my sacd player & blu ray player playing the same disc/song with UMC-1 on, NO sound from sub. What did I do wrong? May be I need to go for the CD player connected to sub test per UMC-1 instruction. Just want to make sure I do it right and won't damage my sub. My sub has line in & out, so I connect cd player using rca cable to line "in" right? Play a song and the sound should come out the sub? Thanks again. This does getting complicated to me

Correct you are. With the speakers off you should of gotten something through the sub. Are you on direct. Or have the cd player hooked up via the 7.1 analog inputs.
But when hooking the cd player up to the sub directly make sure the sub is turned all the way down.

did not check if I am on direct, but my player is connected via 5.1 analog..
I can't wait and go for the CD player direct to sub test. Boy you are right the volume is high even when I turn the volume knob all the way down! Finally I seem to find a spot for the sub with the most output, its behind side sofa close to window with curtain....
Sub test continue now with hz/crossover level....

While hooked up too the 5.1 i believe nothing will be sent to the sub below the xover point.
The only info that will be sent to the sub is what is encoded on the lfe channel of the mix. With cd that is nothing.
For 2 channel listening you need to hook this up another way. A way that will allow stereo mode.
In direct mode your sub would be deactivated.
In stereo mode the sub would activate at the xover point.

I just found out from UMC menu that I can connect a cd player directly to the low level inputs of the sub, play a source and walk around to find the best location of the sub....will probably try this too besides the crawl test. I forgot to mention I use my sacd player to do most of the testing of the new sub, and I connect it by the 5.1 analog to UMC-1. Questions: -does that mean I use the player's DAC? -No processing from UMC-1 at all other than providing the volume? No EmoQ? -my player has the setting for speaker size, distance, level and I did make use of that since the instructions say to do that when using the 5.1 analog connection. Now I suspect the player's setting will affect the sub's output? The setting is very simple and I wonder if I did anything wrong there. Here is the instructions: www.manualowl.com/m/Marantz/DV9600/Manual/223192Take a look at page 40 & 41 still waiting for help to answer my questions re the 5.1 connection...

Hooked into the analog section you are using the dac in the player.
To my understanding this bypasses all internal processong. I have not tested this to confirm
