I just wanted to provide a basic review of my first experience with the XSP-1. I got it set up this afternoon with the following configuration:
XSP-1
ERC-2
RPA-2
Monoprice XLRs, (2) 1 Meter, (2) 2 Meter
Salk SongTowers (original with soft dome tweeter)
Velodine MiniVee 8
This is the first time with XLRs. I liked that the ERC-2 and XSP-1 both have locking connectors. The connection feels so much more solid. I had the ERC-2 hooked up to my Marantz 7002 and it has come loose a few times.
This isn't going to be really detailed. I listened to part of one CD so far, Jessie J's Who We Are.
The initial reaction is that it is very true sounding. The snare and kick drums sound like I expect them to. One one of her songs she goes acoustic and the guitar sounded very realistic. She does a few vocal acrobatics and those all came through cleanly.
I can't figure out the sub as it's output is near nothing even with the volume maxed. I am using the Summed output from the XSP-1. This appears to be sub related as it happened before with my USP-1 as well.
I am going to hook up my BDP-93 to it and see how some of my prized SACDs sound through it. I will also be listening to a few of my better recorded CDs (Steely Dan, Jennifer Warnes, etc..).
Long term plans will include UMC-1 and Theta Intrepid for the home theater setup (I have 3 SongSurround IIs) and use the Home Theater Bypass. I will also move my XDA-1 there and use a laptop for FLAC playback.
I'll have an update sometime in the future. ;D
