Just a few months away from my upgrade to magtech monos, can't wait, like a 10 year old on Christmas Eve. Then need to dig out a tube pre from the basement bin, and have her cleaned and get new tubes, serviced. I'll be in business!
Then I need to re import all my CDs to a hard drive, I did it years ago, but atAAC, as I didn't know anything about this stuff, so, missing a lot of music by the compression of my music from iPod to stereo.

If i could figure out how to post pics from my phone here i'd post pics showing my XPR-1 monoblocks in a system & pics of a pair of my Mcintosh Mc 1201 monoblocks in a system , thus showing somebody has compared the emo reference amps against the ultra high end amps .
Fyi forum staff im not able to even copy & paste in a pic hosted at another site & have the pic show on the page using my phone, all that shows is a link to the pic .

I own 2 XPR-1's and spent the cash to have dedicated 20amp lines brought in to feed them. The amps are wonderful! I believe that I will own them for a very long time. That said; while "Performance beyond the best of the best", is a great marketing term, its just not accurate. Get a grip guys! I have had Levinson's and Macs in this system that sound much better. They are warmer, more dynamic, have a better sound stage etc etc. I am simply no longer willing to pay multiples for incremental returns. The accurate slogan should be "The highest Value amp on the planet"! That's your opinion. I compared my XPR-1's to a pair of MC601's and it was a toss up if you ask me. Macs are great but really no better. Just a lot more money.. And remember the dealer gets half of the MSRP just for selling them to you.... Maybe if I had a pair of $50,000.00 speakers I'd hear a difference. But I don't so I won't.. Are you by any chance known as ( Porschecab ) at other audio sites ?

Do you see an Add Attachment on the top right of your new post? Or when you quote someone? Im using an LG model android phone & nothing pops up when i reply to a post or quote a post , its confusing the crap out of me & kinda bumming me out because im pretty sure my pics would be the 1st comparison of the Emotiva reference amps directly against Mcintosh & Krell amps of like wattage . Edit , my comparison is also done on speakers that can take 2,000 watts @ 8 ohms & will drink all my amps dry of every last watt so all amps are drove hard, very hard

I normally use the reply button at the bottom of the page & no icons show up in the upper right hand side of the page so i did this reply from the reply button on top the page & the same deal , no icons anywhere on the page anywhere .

This past Friday I finally hooked up my XPR-1's. While I didn't have other monoblocks on hand, I must say that I think they will hold their own against the more expensive stuff. I think (my opinion) that they might not "blow away" the high end mono amps out there, for the money I think it's as close as I need to be to really enjoy music more than I have been able to with other amps in my system. The mcintosh 1201s are very serious quality amplifiers. I'm happy that the XPR-1s were able to be compared against them. Can you tell us some of your findings in regards to sonics between the two? The only thing I can assume is that they might have sounded different. I'm interested to hear about your experience with both amps. Thanks. Jeff

The only thing I can assume is that they might have sounded different. I'm interested to hear about your experience with both amps. Thanks. Jeff Well comparing the sound of our Mcintosh 1201's vs our XPR-1s with both sets of amps driving Mcintosh XR-290 line array speakers at normal to loud listening levels both amps sound nearly identical, as they should , it isnt until i push both amps fairly hard is where differences are heard with the Mcintosh amps giving a stronger bass response than the XPR-1's but it isnt a truly fair comparison , the Mc amps have an extra 200 watts & they also have Autoformers which makes the load the amp see's a constant 8 ohms no matter how low the independence curve of the speaker drops, i can only hear differences between the Mcintosh & Emotiva monoblocks on the XR-290 line arrays & not on my other speakers that are less demanding & not needing 2,000 watts , on the JBL's both sound very close & on the kilpsch they sound identical. Ive also compared the emo's with our Krell FPB-650 monoblocks which again isnt a truly fair comparison being the Krells are class a all the way up to 650 watts , the FPB monos bench test at just under 1,000 watts so the wattage is close but the sound isnt , after about 100 watts is where the Krell monos leave the XPR-1's in the dust on the XR-290 line arrays, much more robust bass from the Krell amps than the Emo's but its that way when i compare the Mcintosh amps vs the Krells because the Mc & Emo's are both class a/b where the Krells are class a . All said & done ive gotta say that the emo XPR-1's are nearly the same sonically as any other well thought out class a/b amp of the same wattage & i would akin their sound & performance to be equal to the Mcintosh Mc-1000 monoblocks we used to run on our rears before we got the Krells , their fantastic amps no matter what great amp you compare them with .

All things being equal (which they are not... especially price) at normal listening levels I expected the Mac to have a slightly warmer and airy bias. The Krell being class A is in a different league of its own. Those line arrays are absolutely revealing and detailed speakers for sure! Great to hear that the amps are working well for you!

Im not sure if i'd describe differences between amps as warm or airy but ido agree that Mcintosh has what i would describe as a house sound that comes with their autoformer model amps , still after allmost 2 yrs with the XPR-1 monoblocks i wouldnt describe them less of an amp than any other well built ss amp including our Krell or Mcintosh amps & i drive them all hard . Sooner or later im gonna find a way to get some pics up on this site , especially of my XR-290 arrays im so proud of , Roger Russell was kind enough to autograph them for me & he's getting up there in age as i am so it'd be cool to get some pics of them on the www before both of us old farts take the big nap . My worst nightmare is one of my grandkids blasting Miley Cyrus at 140 db out of one of our systems

Just looking up recent threads on the phone app isn't simple.
