A while back there was a discussion in a UPA-500 and some in the XREF-15 threads, that Emotiva should or could offer a stand-alone 1kw subwoofer amplifier w/DSP. I also recall in the discussion Lonnie asking if we would want it, and said it would be fairly easy for them to do. So I thought it would be good to start a poll to see if the Emotiva fans think this is a good idea or not.
So a simple poll; should they or should they not produce a stand-alone subwoofer amp with DSP?
As a DIY speaker guy I am really interested in this. I'm currently in the process of designing and building a passive sub and have been looking for something to power it. There are not really that many offerings out there for an affordable, high quality, non-plate sub amp. I know many use pro amps, but I can't sell myself on the esthetics of them, not to mention I am really not into modding the fans to quiet them. But I am also trying to save rack space so a class-d pro design is appealing.
What are everyones thoughts on this? Do you think it is a viable product for Emotiva to produce?

Wasn't this product confirmed at the most recent Emo-Fest? But yes, I've been waiting for this for several years.

It was talked about at Emofest but I don't remember if it was considered a done deal or not. Maybe Klinemj has something in his notes?

Yes, I believe it was talked about at emofest. Wish I could have been there to know for sure But I don't think it was ever confirmed. I dug up the posts from Lonnie. So Lonnie, speaking of higher standards and all that, when's the stand-alone subwoofer DSP with 1KW amp coming out? That is a very good question. We have had a lot of discussions on this and at least from what we see the market has changed and it looks like pretty much everyone is looking for built in amps. Now that we have the DSP work finished and the amps worked out, it would be a pretty easy task to put the pieces together. What do you guys want? Lonnie Ok, I will tell you what you do. Start a new thread, or even a poll about the stand a lone sub amp/ DSP. Tell us what you want (within some kind of reason please) and lets see how many of you are on board. Like everything else, if enough people want it, we will certainly build it. Lonnie Perhaps they are unsure internally whether to do it or not.

I'd like one.
I like the Behringer Ep2500/4000, etc --- but it's a pain to find a good sub amp that doesn't have totally fictional wattage ratings. There isn't that problem with Emotiva gear.

Emo promised a line of DSP-controlled subs a looonnngggg time ago and actually built some. But, IIRC, they decided to re-vamp the design and also employ higher-wattage amps. I was really stoked about this and planned it as my next Emo purchase. Alas. it seems to have disappeared from the radar. I hope they see this poll and decide to (quickly) do it.
Otherwise, Velodyne is gonna get my money...

Yeah, I'd be open for one. I suspect my eD A5-350 sub amp is not gonna last forever and I really don't wanna give up the rest of the sub just because the amp went bad.

Otherwise, Velodyne is gonna get my money... -RW- I too have been waiting for Emotiva to deliver the ERS Series of sub woofers for the past three years. This is/was the super smart DSP equipped sub woofer with the external power amps that Lonnie wrote the DSP software that allowed almost infinite adjustability. At this past Emofest, during the Q & A session, I asked Big Dan about when we could expect to see the ERS subs. Dan answered that the DSP/AMP used on the upcoming XREF-15 would be available as a separate external SKU. He furthher said that Emotiva would offer a sub woofer equivalent to the ERS subs by using this external DSP/AMP during 2013. After the Q & A, I talked to Dan further about the "ERS-like" subs and he indicated that it will come out along with the new Reference Series Speakers that will be replacing the silk-dome tweeters with the folded ribbon driver. IIRC the timing on introducing the new Reference speakers is 2nd Qtr of 2013.

I'm very interested in the same things that roadrunner mentioned. Basically, I'd be very happy with a dedicated sub amp/dsp with 1 or more passive subs. That being said, if the XMC-1 can do all the DSP work for 2 subs, then I don't need any DSP in my amp. Just output from the XMC-1 to a simple good amp in the sub and/or outboard amp. That does make me wonder. What is the point of having a DSP on the sub if you have one in the processor?
