Good to see all of the positive comments. I'm wondering though how many of us are saying yes because we want one or whether it's truly a good move for Emotiva. I personally still think this is a marketable idea with little competition. Though I'll admit it might not be a gigantic market. But how many pro amps are being sold for this purpose? My guess is it's more that we think.

It's likely not a gigantic market, but I wouldn't think Emotiva needs it to be gigantic to make business sense. They already have the DSP and maybe the amplifier design available in their existing product line, so all it would be is a packaging effort. I would think they could move a couple thousand units pretty easily if they built it.

I still happen to have 2 passive subwoofers, and I am very happy with them. They are driven by a UPA-1 each and that is just perfect. a more dedicated subwoofer amp with a more cubistic form style and a Feature set for subwoofers would be very welcome. One of the most important things not to Forget: a Trigger to power them on! Also not everybody needs 1000 watts and more, in a lot of cases this can also happen not to be hand-able any more as you Need to able to fit this in a 7.1 System. I would already be very happy with something between 300 to 500 hundred watts.

If I remember correctly at emofest they stated that they had in the works for the new xref sub line a 1kw external sw amp. The 1kw was bridged @ 4 ohm with DSP.

Sounds perfect to me and I hope it becomes reality. Should be a good match with this sub I am contemplating using. www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=295-512

Yes, that is exactly what Big Dan said about the amp that will be part of the XRef-15 sub woofer. No time frame was mentioned as to when Emo will be offering the stand alone DSP/Amp, but based on other conversations I think it will be introduced at the same time as the new Reference Series speakers.

Would love to see one. I would certainly buy it. Been contemplating a DIY sub as my other thread indicates. But all the plate amps seem quite underwhelming.

I built the sub enclosure from scratch & the 400 watt amp from a kit some years ago. Worked well with an 80 wpc AVR, but it's a bit underdone now with an XPA-5. A 1kw amp would be nice, plus the DIY look clashes with the Emotive gear.

OK I saw a brief mention that this was discussed at Emofest to be still in the works.
So I thought I'd bring this post back to life and say - pretty please, make this a reality.
I'm really resisting getting a pro amp.

I would be interested in this for sure. It would be cool if Emotiva offered passive subwoofers and separate DSP amplifiers specifically designed to drive subs!

A REAL 1000w RMS would be awesome. What price point are we talking? I always wonder about those power ratings on the Pro Amps. 2500, 3500, 5000 watts! I mean, really? What kind of RMS power do those things put out? I know RMS for a sub isn't as important as short-term bursts but still...

I'm in the processes of making a call on which sub woofer amp I'm going to upgrade to. As per the Behringer EP4000 thread, I'm currently looking at a Dayton plate amp, Cass AB, 1000 watts. But I'd really prefer a stand alone Emotiva sub woofer amp, any rumours, hints, or promising news?
Cheers Gary
