Ok guys, I found a local guy selling some ERM-6.2's. He wanted $200 a piece for one, $350 for 2, or $450 for all 3 of his. I know these were sold brand new while being clearanced off for $149. I offered $250 for a pair. He seems to think this is a low ball and he can get more from our favorite auction site. Just looking from some other input here. Used speakers, discontinued, what is the value? These will literally be my garage speakers so keep in mind necessity is not there.
so how about it? What are they worth?

Used equipment is always worth no more than what someone will pay for it. If he can get more than you're willing to pay then more power to him. My best advice for buying used gear is to look at what they're selling for on other sites. Based upon what history shows as the average selling point is what I would offer (regardless of whether they were discounted or not). As a rule of thumb, for speakers I go a minimum of 50% of retail for like new condition and reduce my offer based on condition from there.

Not intending this to be a flippant answer, but as far as what those speakers are worth, it only matters what they are "worth" to you - how much are you willing to pay for them? While it may be true that Emo cleared out the 6.2's at $149, these speakers are no longer available new from Emotiva so that isn't a good gauge of what they are worth. Of course it depends on what condition the speakers are in, what warranty remains, etc. but if they are in good condition another factor to consider is he is local and thus you don't have to pay anything for shipping charges.

Well, the speakers are kinda local. About 60-80 miles drive to get them. Few gallons of gas and a couple hours of my time. Of course you could almost ship them for that cost at that point as well. As far as condition, he says they are in like new condition and he has all original double boxes. 4 years remaining on warranty. Value to me is the tough part. I have many speakers, and I build my own. I just moved in to my Condo and I have a garage for the first time. I just bought a Mini-X and want something to run with it. I also have a 12" powered Cambridge subwoofer for the lows so the speaker need not be completely full range. I guess I'm just being a snob here and looking for better tunes than the run of the mill walmart package speaker. I guess I'm just wondering what the value of these are because I don't want to find myself under water if I buy them and don't like them, or if I build myself a pair I like better in the future and want to off load these. I am not as fortunate as some here and my job pays enough for the bills and a very select few things afterward. Should I make the decision to buy these I want to know that it's a good one and I'm not throwing money away!
If anybody has these and can attest to sound quality, build quality, etc. it would certainly help as well. The only speaker I have owned by Emo is the XRM-4.1 I just bought last week. They sound nice, but certainly not indicative of all of their speaker lines.

Well 60-80 miles is quite a drive so I can understand not wanting to spend all that time and gas on something and find out it wasn't worth it. I used to own the 6.2's. I thought the build quality was very good - Emo didn't skimp on them. They were quite popular with people in the lounge and got favorable reviews. Personally I thought they were a bit on the bright side. They definitely need a sub, but since you have one you should be fine. I think the ERM line was better than the XRM line so if you like the 4.1's, then you should like the 6.2's. The 6.2's are also very easy to drive to loud levels.

I have these speakers, and luv them and the sound is great, but for the garage,i think these would be too nice, and especially with a mini x.,,you would be better off getting a piar of there outdoor moniters, which I also have, and there sound great hooked to my mini x ,The 6.2 where meant more for home theather use and 2 channel ,at least in my opionin,,I am sure there will be much more from other members that have then.

These are flat out excellent speakers! I have the smaller brother, The Emo ERM-1. This ERM-6.2 has a superb silk dome tweeter and 2ea 6.5 Kevlar type mid/bass drivers. The two back panel switches are very helpful, see page 12 of the owner's manual. The boundary comp switch is especially helpful if mounted on or near the wall. I very seldom disagree with Monku, but I do not find this tweeter bright. Maybe Monku didn't try the tweeter switch in the -2dB setting. I find this tweeter superbly natural and smooth and not a hint of edginess or brightness as in some metal tweeter speakers. It doesn't have a peaked response between 10kHz and 20kHz as many "audiophile" speakers with metal tweeters do. The 6.2 is only 16" high and weighs 27lbs! That should tell you volumes about its build quality. I think you might even be surprisingly impressed, if for fun, you do an A/B with one of the 6.2's and one of your MA or AE speaker from 70Hz and up. Know that the 6.2 has a very high power handling ability and is rated at 4 ohms. To be amazed take them for a test ride with with either the XPA-5 or XPA-1. They will sound great with a high quality/power amp. It purposely rolls off fairly fast below 80Hz and will sound best matched with a sub for music like your Cambridge. IMO, the Emo Reference series speakers are some of best speakers I have ever heard anywhere even near the price range. The mini-X a-100 will be fine to drive them with a sub. At extremely high levels the 6.2 will handle 250 watts RMS and much more with peaks. With 4 years remaining on the warranty and the ability to view these speakers in person, I would jump on these! At $300/pr closeout they were an amazing deal. I would offer him $275, $300, $325 or go all the way to $350/pr if you have to. You will not find any speakers in this class with 4 years of warranty any where near $500/pr or less. emotiva.com/resources/manuals/retired/ref_speakers_manual.pdf

If the ERM-6.2 speakers are in good condition, I would jump all over the price he is offering you. They are really exceptionally well made using premium parts throughout. They are probably good enough, with the addition of a musical sub woofer, to challenge the sound quality of your GS60s. A lot of Lounge members used the ERM-6.2 speakers for their mains in their HT systems and were very happy with them. If you don't ever see yourself using the speakers for anything but use in the garage, I would take a serious look at the Emotiva UOM-6.2. For that price I'm with RR and Chuckie - they are an excellent deal. You won't make money on them but they are hard to come by. Which is why I won't sell my ERM-1s. They would only fetch me maybe $250 shipped but what could I replace them with for that amount? Nothing! I still do not understand Emo halting the ERM-1. Probably to spur sales of the 6.2?
