That is a cool effect to go for. That's why mine have the smoked glass window in them. Being wall mounted, I can see the red LED's lit...that's my power-on indicator. I actually considered having a plate of smoked glass as the entire cover so I could see the boards, also.
FYI...you will be fine on cooling with these...mine don't get very warm at all.
