It uses the same USB driver and upgrade sofrware Now I thought it wasn't the same driver and procedure. That is a shame since I predict this will cause the same headaches we saw with the UMC-1 and its update process. I sincerely hope I am mistaken...

I don’t own the UMC-200, but being of a curious nature I downloaded the update and extracted the files contained in the installer to see was I could see.
Like the UMC-1 installer, this is a Visual Basic 6.0 application. This in and of itself is not of any concern, but if you’re going to use this old tool, as many do, including myself, it should it least be up to date.
Many of the DLLS and OCX components in this installation are way out of date(2001) as the version of VB6 may be that created the program.
I’m not trying to be a pain in the a$% here, but I would think these would be lessons learned from the UMC-1.

I don't get it, but I can only assume, Emotive like to get calls and process RMAs.

OK, some progress to report. Finally got the files to load (I think) but screen comes upo with ODS mismatch, 3.13. But it is working. I did not keep returning to bak panel AC switch, but held blue front panel power switch for 10-15 seconds till it went off.... Then unplugged USB from computer.. started upload, olugged in USB cable to PC, then hit the front power switch. That got file 4 to load.. messages I saw did not match docs... anyway, now need to see if firmware numbers match and will try to set up my defaults. wish there was a change log... thanks for the ideas.. by combining some of them I've made some progress. At least it operates now.. Mel (more to come in hopes someone else will be helped)

Not out of the woods yet.. get an DSP mode mismatch error and lots of numbers. On screen displays are blank. Guess I will go in and try to reload everything because something didn't take... Front panel display is giving me warnings about 3.13. Ugh. This is a pretty user hostile update...

Not a banner day for their firmware update.. maybe someone will be in office tomorrow.

I updated just fine. Windows 8 Preview Release that I still had on my laptop. Running the updater it complained about "path/file" and wouldn't start. I went into compatibility properties of the app, and turned it on to the default (WinXP SP3) and it ran fine at that point. Followed the steps exactly as typed out. All 4 times, worked just fine. The error messages on the UMC-200 as it powered up was alarming, but its normal. Just let it power all the way up, load through the error messages. Then continue on as the instructions say. (Those error messages went away after the final update process) EmoQ did a nice job calibrating. My sweet spot is sweet with my maggies on the first try. I don't need to tweak anything from the sounds of it. Listening to all my highres audio files off JRiver and watching Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter sounds perfect as well. (What a crap movie, BTW) I didn't have any "issues" going into this other than wanting it to remember the last volume setting. WHICH IT NOW DOES! Also, the menu font is better. Bigger. THANK YOU Very happy.

I started up again with same results.. 4 'successful' uploads but OSD and DSP2 errors. Unit works, sorta, in that I can select different HDMI inputs, but no OSD. Maybe I can reach someone tomorrow.. don't know where to go from here...
Wish it went smoothly, but it didn't. Good luck all.

Good so far, using denist method for i was also stuck on the loading nag message with the 4th file showing fail. SUCCESS USING HIS METHOD THANKS..
Denist method as follows These are the steps I took
1:Power off umc from the back
2:Unplug USB cable only from PC
3:Run twe program on your PC
4: Find upgrade file and click re program and select all files and hit start
5:A box saying USB comes up with all kind of glibberists
6:Power on umc from the back but Leave it on amber
7:Plug USB cable in the PC and power on umc 200
8:then the USB box disappears and it start loading on the 4Th file. Usually there will be all kind of missmatch osd warnings. Don't worry , mine completely dissapeared after all the other files were loaded.
9:Then it loads the rest from the top 1,2,3
10: make sure all files indicates successfull.
11:power down your UMC-200 from the back toggle and un plug the USB câble from the unit
12: power up the unit and don't forget the load defaults instructions at the end.
hopefully you're done
Many thanks to DENIST, actually I believe that this pdf may be of use if everything else fails Mel

Good so far, was using denist method for i was also stuck on loading with the 4th file showing fail. SUCCESS USING HIS METHOD THANKS.. Denist method as follows These are the steps I took and it flashing the third one as I Power off umc from the back Unplug USB cable from pc Run twe program as admin Find upgrade file and click re program and hit start A box saying USB comes Up Power on umc from the back but Leave it as amber Plug USB cable in and the power on umc Them the USB box disappears and it start on the 4th file And then loads the rest from top 1,2,3 And done No offense to Emotiva but why should it be this hard to do a simple FW update? I'm seriously considering getting the UMC-200 but if this will be the FW update process I'm having second thoughts on the purchase. To update my Oppo 103 or Denon 4311 it is a very simple process that does not require all this work. Bill

First, since everybody seems curious, the updater application is actually quite a few versions newer than the one for the UMC-1. It's ... interesting ... that you can figure out what language it was written in, but, really, does it matter? Since this is considered a "utility" and not a "user interface", the developers didn't spend a lot of time making it pretty. This was written by a different group, so the driver choice was theirs. It is not unusual for development tools to use older versions of drivers if they are stable and actually work (they don't get paid to make it "pretty" or "modern".) This updater installs the driver versions it need. My guess is that it would also work with the v3.3 drivers. We can't try all combinations on all computers. The reason the procedure is so long and boring (is 20 minutes really so bad?) is that we chose stability and reliability over saving a few minutes. If you load the modules individually, and turn things on and off EXACTLY AS WE INSTRUCTED YOU, it almost always works on the first try. If you check multiple modules at once, or skip using the rear panel power switch, or unplug and plug in the wire when we don't tell you to, then the update may finish sooner, but it will fail more often. It uses the same USB driver and upgrade sofrware I never had any issue either with the umc1 this one. Ain't bad but I had one failed attempt the rest went ok

Yes, I did it as Keith says "EXACTLY AS WE INSTRUCTED YOU" several times with the same result (errors and mismatch) from 2 different computers, although they are both running Windows 7 64 bit. Used the above method and no more errors. Further testing will have to wait until tomorrow. THANK YOU DENIST!

I have one question here.... DID YOU UNPLUG THE USB CABLE FROM THE REAR OF THE UMC-200 BEFORE RESTARTING IT? Some UMC-200 units WILL display "DSP 2 ERROR" and/or fail to show the OSD if you attempt to turn them on with the USB cable connected to the rear of the unit (even if the other end isn't plugged into anything). This doesn't interfere with the update, and is why the instructions CLEARLY tell you to remove the cable before trying to use the UMC-200. If you DID unplug the cable first, then it's possible you have a bad load, and I would suggest re-doing the update (follow the instructions EXACTLY). If the same thing still happens, then you may have a defective unit, so call support on Monday so we can figure out if you do. (If your unit is bad, obviously we need to fix it.) I started up again with same results.. 4 'successful' uploads but OSD and DSP2 errors. Unit works, sorta, in that I can select different HDMI inputs, but no OSD. Maybe I can reach someone tomorrow.. don't know where to go from here... Wish it went smoothly, but it didn't. Good luck all.
