Sorry if it was mentioned elsewhere but did anyone notice a new audio precision test data for the 8 ohms spec of the xpa2 . It appears the amp was re tested on may 08 2013. The wattage is much higher. Perhaps the series 2 spec was published? Does show 32 db of gain though..

Well they don't show what THD values they tested at. Maybe it was the 1% THD?

I can't recall the exact THD figures from the original test but the new ones may be slightly higher. Impressive output at a still respectable distortion figure. if it was the gen2 being tested I would think there were definately changes made internally..

>> Uh oh, you're gonna be hearing from RLW on that last sentence. <<
Yeah, how dare he diss my favorite speakers! <g> Truth be told, I think the B&Ws are very fine speakers and do sound very, very good. But they do not have the diffractionless "cabinet" that the Gallos have. And they are not time and phase aligned. And they do not have the 300 deg. dispersion of my Gallos. The diamond tweet is a marvelous device, but to my ears the CDT is every bit its match and is "smoother" in its presentation. And it has *much* better dispersion. Many have remarked that the diamond tweeter can be a bit bright, but many favor that quality.
Also, B&Ws tend to lock you into a sweet-spot, move a foot left or right and they lose some of the magic. However, when you are in the sweet-spot, it is most definitely VERY sweet! Finally, you can buy gently used Gallo 3.1s for $1500 on Audiogon, those 804Ds cost about 8 large new as I remember and I doubt you'll find a pair for less than $5,000 used...
I can definitely see someone preferring them to what I have, and that's cool by me - to each his own, as the saying goes. But I could buy 6 3.1s for the price of 2 804Ds...

Or how about having the old trim available for changing X__G2 to match X--G1. Actually I'm not too happy that any new Emotiva stuff that I buy will not match the old. I have a considerable investment in Emotiva products and I feel that changes like this are fickle and rather abandoning of the faithful past customers. Decorative features like this never, read me NEVER, please everyone. Best to stick with an 'mo' like McIntosh has through the years. here a post from the first page Ok. Briefly. The Gen 2 has a new topology and the internals are improved...in too many ways to describe...Dan did a better job at talking than i did listening. The silver trims are optional now...and included. They looked very nice. They are shipping in a few weeks...so start getting worked about them now. Cost increase will be slight. NO XMC news. Sherbourn receiver is a UMC-200 with 80/ch all driven built in. Sounded nice, too. More later, thumbs tired. See my LINK in initial post, Sorry bout FB, it was my only option for nowww jm

I wonder if the people who own first generation of X-serie amp can send them to Emotiva for upgrading to Generation 2?
I am talking about the internal improvement.
I forgot to ask this question at Boston.

I forgot to ask this question at Boston. My guess would be that it would cost less if you just sold your old xpa-5 and paid the difference for the Gen 2.

The new Gen 2 XPA-2 and XPA-5 are available on the website. Funky! Definitely different, but still pretty subtle. The current EmoBucks deal is interesting. I'm interested to see if they change to Gen2 on the XPA-1 and XPA-3 when they sell out.

For the serious enthusiast, you have the choice of running the XPA-2 as a high-quality stereo amplifier, or a 1,000 watt monoblock..." ...

So if you have the old xpa2 is it worth upgrading to the gen 2?

Hmmmmmm....Now my big problem is how this won't fit aesthetically if I buy that XSP-1 I've been wanting! But it does sound like they made some improvements. Read through the test data and all but it would be nice to hear some detail from one of the Emotiva guys - perhaps on the next podcast?

We'll be making the Classic silver trim pieces available at no charge to those customers that need them to match their other gear. BTW, we made a lot of improvements, not just some!
