Not really 9.2 but when I hooked up the wides to the receiver and the 7 other channels to the amp you could play all 9 channels and the subs. Thank you for the welcome and all the help. Decided to stay with the onkyo instead of going with the PT 7030 hope I am not making a wrong choice.

Sure Emotiva makes having a high end system (sound wise) affordable, but enjoying each step up is part of the hobby. Plus, by the time you decide to upgrade your Preamp/Processor, the XMC-1 may be out!

While the UPA-500/700 may not give you the reference levels you may want, they'll power your Gallo's at comfortable listening levels." No, I will not be doing that. The fact of the matter is my Gallos are 88 db efficient, fully 8 db less efficient than the OP's. And the XPA-5 drives them quite well and I feel *absolutely* no need to even consider something like an XPR-5. And a UPA-500 is a big drop down in power, 80 watts/ch as opposed to 200 watts/ch. Plus I paid a UPA-500 price for my XPA-5. But this guy is seriously considering a 350 watts/ch. amp for his VERY efficient speakers. And that is a total waste of money unless he is trying to run his system in a big-ass disco, which he is not. You guys with your "headroom" mantra are full of crap, plain and simple. The OP would do quite well with a UPA-500 - 80 real watts into 96 db speakers will play really friggin' LOUD. He should order one and listen to it in his system - I'm betting he keeps it... -RW- You are probably right when you say that there is not a true "need" for really high-powered amps in many situations, and that using them is overkill. However, people buy stuff for all kinds of reasons and not necessarily because it is the absolute best match. To try and dictate what other people should buy based on purely technical reasons of matching the amp specs to the speaker specs starts getting into the philosophy of, "from each according to their ability and to each according to their needs." That's why communism is such a miserably failed way of life, because it is not in harmony with human nature. I'm not saying human nature is anything wonderful (we see how much greed and corruption is caused by it) but it IS persistent. I'd say the principles of free choice and achieving piece of mind are of higher priority than trying to limit what people buy because what they want isn't the "best" choice in technical terms.

It is a big difference in the clarity of voices, music sounds more alive the low end is better the high end is better. With the Onkyo TX NR 808 I can use the amp to play 7 channel and the av receiver to play either the wides or highs. Can't wait to get home and play around with it some more.

Yup, thought so. Until someone experiences controlled, balanced power it's hard to explain.
(I bet you secretly wish you could have gotten seven 1000 watt per channel XPR-1 monoblocks now, don't you?)

Yes I do have to start saving my pennies. When I saw their clearance sale I tried to buy the PA 2-160, but they were all sold out.
