reselling it wouldn't be very kosher But it definitely isn't a bad deal. I got the whole LP collection and have really enjoyed it.

Hey bmoney, I have the usb set and really like it. It does lack a little of the warmth of my Japanese and British vinyl, but it also lacks the pops! The mix is nice, it kills the sound of the couple of cds I own of the same tunes, and the files are SO convenient! I will be selling my vinyl and have only listened to the 24 bit files since I got them. Some day Apple will sell some 96 or even 192 copies of the masters, but these are really, really enjoyable and I can recommend them.

I purchased the stereo box and returned it for the mono box. The stereo mix was horrible due to the hard panning on the first couple of albums.

I for one have (most) of the Beatles music and I would be hard pressed to spend anything on 40 or 50 year old music that I already have. I'd spend it on more current things - and I do. I try to live in today and not re-collect music from the past over and over like the guys who have 14 versions of DSOTM Do each his own though...

In the early days of stereo they really seperated the channels to augment the new technology. When I was younger and listening to the stereo versions I used to like setting the balance to one side or the other to seperate the mix. It also made it easier to learn the bass lines.

Actually, if it weren't The Beatles being discussed here I'd agree, but since the discussion happens to involve (what I think) is the greatest rock and roll band and songwriters & singers - EVER, I'd have to give an exception to The Beatles work! I picked up the remastered CD set in Stereo and love it. VERY nice! But at the same time, given the chance, there is a lot of new music worth listening to, and buying to own as well - just gotta expose yourself to it and listen! And I buy a lot of new music too (and also regret some purchases later), but wholeheartedly enjoy most when I'm dicerning and patient... (I think some of Coldplay's work rvials that of The Beatles too, its just that they don't quite have the catalog built up yet .

I have the old mixes and some newer stereo mixes. I THINK the old mixes were from the Mono Box set and the newer are from the usb stereo set. That is the only way it makes sense to me, but I will check when I get home. I do know that my albums have those hard left and right mixes. I will report back this evening.

You can do whatever you like, there is no right answer But $270.00 is a lot of money for old recordings in my world. Not sure about the Beatles being the greatest rock band of all time....... They were more pop than anything else in my view and music is generational in my opinion. They did shape music early on in a way that was profound as did Elvis, Muddy Waters, Jerry Lee Louis, The Rolling Stones, The Yard Birds, Led Zeppelin and many others. They certainly are firmly cemented in musical history, but so is Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Beethoven, Mozart, Paganini, Kurt Cobain, Elton John, Billy Joel and many more.... I just find that many of us older guys cling a lot to the past because we are afraid to learn about today. There is a little bar I go to and it's mostly visited by 50ish and 60ish men. Almost without exception if they play music on the jukebox it's all music from the 60's & 70's..... They know very little about todays music and most are afraid to admit it. Most haven't bought a CD in a decade or more. I love yesterday but I've moved on. They argue there is nothing good in music in recent times until I go over to the jukebox and start playing some of todays rock and jazz and blues and they say "hey, not bad who was that"...

So are they are charging $270 bucks to convert 16-bit to 24-bit? Or is this a complete remaster from the original tapes to 24-bit.

Yeah, you're right about people in their 50's & 60's simply not wanting to listen or consider anything new (virtually *ALL* of my friends and relatives fall into that category, as I did myself - up to about ten years ago! ). Now I purposely refuse to listen to any 'classics' or 'oldie' stations, I want to hear the new music. And like someone famous once said - "90% of everything is crap, but oh that 10%!"That's true today, and it was true 40 years ago also. And it will still be true 40 years from now...bet on it. A lot of great music was made in the past, but that shouldn't blind us to many of the excellent things being done today - or to make us reject the past music either by the way! .

OK, to my ears, the usb set is a different mix. Listening to Rubber Soul, the mix is still a little left/right, but not nearly so starkly so, and the bass and drums and vocals are really quite clear. It is my preferred way to listen to the lads.

I have the mono version of all of their music as well as the stereo and I prefer the mono. To me it is a more full, real sound. I believe I also have copies of their music on other notables such as their "Beatles Anthology and "Love" compilation cd which I just listened to last night. As much as I love the band and their music enough is enough. I would not buy the same music over again. IMHO they are the most notable "rock," "pop" band ever. When you think that the lads first arrived here in the mid 60's and we are still playing their music and talking about the band. It seems with all of the recreation of their music and the books written and magazine articles and pictures displayed in the market we just can't seem to get enough. I doubt there are going to be to many of the bands today to inherit the star quality and carry the torch of music variety in both words and interpretation of melody and still be playing and have interest in another fifty years. It is a record that won't be broke.
