With all the talk about Oppo including Darbee Video Processing, what's your take? You can buy a Lumagen Processor with DVP, soon an Oppo, or a Darblet. It doesn't seem to be going away -- so I'm curious how people feel. Hopefully this won't spawn any heated debates! And no, I didn't add an "I own it and I won't use it" option.... Maybe I should have?

I've never seen it but I've read a lot about it. My first impulse is to agree with Andrew. But then again I've never seen it. So who knows.

I've never seen it but I've read a lot about it. My first impulse is to agree with Andrew. But then again I've never seen it. So who knows. My first impulse is to as well. A great deal of time is spent producing movies, and I'm inclined to want to see it how it WAS seen before getting OK'd by the production staff. That being said, I'm not opposed to buying something as long as I can take it out of the path. This bit from AVS ( www.avsforum.com/t/1492940/official-oppo-bdp-103d-darbee-edition-owners-thread/0_100) is interesting: Does the BDP-103D still have QDEO?No. The Marvell QDEO processor has been completely removed from the player and replaced by the Darbee and the VRS solutions. The VRS handles 4K scaling, Detail Enhancement and Edge Enhancement processing, while the Darbee handles just Darbee processing. Since there is no longer a QDEO processor, will there be a loss of picture quality and accuracy?
No. Like the current BDP-103, the BDP-103D uses the MediaTek SOC for all de-interlacing, scaling (to 1080p) and general video processing. So when the Darbee is set to OFF, the BDP-103D and the BDP-103 offer identical video performance. Arguably, the HDMI 1 output of the BDP-103D will be better than the HDMI 1 output of the BDP-103 as some people observed a slightly less sharp image using HDMI 1. This was due to the QDEO enabling a small amount of Noise Reduction to this interface. Without the QDEO processor, there is no Noise Reduction defaulted to the HDMI 1 output, so some perceived increase in sharpness may be observed.

I have never seen a darbee device and really have no interest

I have seen it with their demo material and it looked phenomenal. I will withhold my judgement until I can see it with a variety of material played through it. I am however "interested", maybe enough so to buy a new Oppo. My existing BDP-93 will make an excellent CD player for my bedroom setup. It has enough pre pro functions to enable me to just use it and an amp. This alone makes the new one appetizing for me.

I use madVR because it's better and it's free.

I'm picking up a unit to try. (dvp5000) I'll post some impressions after I had it for a week or so.

I don't like the concept, or the still images I've seen (which include various settings). However, since I still haven't seen it in person, I'm still officially undecided.

I think the results are quite interesting... Just what did you expect? Legions of video purist thumbing their noses or realistic consumers that will reserve judgement until they see it for themselves? Emotiva customers tend to fall into the latter otherwise they would be buying the top priced boutique audio brands instead. Think about it.

I'd be curious to know how many of those who have "seen it" are referring to the demos on the web or at Darbee's site as opposed to those who have actually had one to play around with themselves. If they've "seen it" only with web site demos, then they haven't really "seen it" and I personally would discount their opinion of it.

I think they are interesting regardless. The poll reflects the very mixed feelings people have. Not sure what you're trying to imply...

I took the tongue smiley as one of disappointment with the results. Sorry if I misread. Noooo! Not disappointment at all. Just laughing at the huge variety in responses! Good bad indifferent. I appreciate the purist mentality as much as the "crank it up and make it sparkle". Both camps generally have something to say. Bootman - the qualities that you mention about Emotiva customers are exactly why I appreciate the comments and reactions here on the lounge. They tend to be educated, informed, passionate customers - which makes their reactions quite "legitimate" for lack of a better word. I believe that most voters could substantiate their choice in a pretty articulate manner - and that's something I really appreciate when geek talking about products.

I selected "have not seen it, undecided" as I have only followed the discussions over on that other site and have not seen one in action in my HT. I would love to try it out but have always felt the $300 would be better spent upgrading my projector. Would be cool if one was available for demo.

"Preference is NOT reference", I definitely know where you stand! and I'm right there with you. I don't however have a problem with others that want to give it a look-see to check it out and see if they "prefer" the Darbee processing look.
