This is great Bonzo! Thanks for posting! Glad I could be of assistance. This show is very similar to the one I got to see in Seattle last July. Flew to San Fran then drove the coast road North in a Mustang convertible all week, and capped it off seeing Robert the last night. Awesome vacation. Now if they would release this New Orleans show here (in it's entirety not cut like this) on Blu-ray I'd be happy.

I am a huge Zep fan so don't take this the wrong way. I really think these "remasters" is just Jimmy Page continuing to make moola of of stuff that was done 40 years ago and probly won't be purchasing them anytime soon. "How the West was Won" is great though

I am a huge Zep fan so don't take this the wrong way. I really think these "remasters" is just Jimmy Page continuing to make moola of of stuff that was done 40 years ago and probly won't be purchasing them anytime soon. "How the West was Won" is great though I can absolutely understand how/why you feel that way. I think it's a natural thing when any band or artist re-releases previously released stuff. Fact is, there is no doubt that at least part of how you feel is absolute truth. But I don't think this effort is as much a money grab as what they have done before. The 2 CD set Remasters was the first one, since it was just a consolidated set of the 4 CD Boxed Set. But worse was the Early Days / Later Days and Mothership, which were nothing more than 99% releases of the 2 CD Remasters under a different guise. Both those sets were 100% about money, nothing else. On these sets I think Jimmy is trying to correct some wrongs of the past. He wants these to be the legacy of LZ, and get them done with his supervision before he's no longer able to do it. At least with these new sets we get a lot of new previously unreleased (and what appears so far to be not even available on bootleg) material, and we get what is the supposed creme de la creme of uncompressed fully remastered "from original tapes" sound releases, both on CD and vinyl, as well as hi-rez 24/96 digital downloads. We'll know sound wise in a few weeks I guess.

I could only come up with dough for the Deluxe vinyl, but I'm thrilled to be getting them. . Good news is that I checked Amazon the other day and my original pre-order of something like $740 is now down to just less than $600. What a bargain. Good for me.

I saw Zep back in '72 at the Balto. Civic Center. They opened with Immigrant Song and it is still the best concert opener I have ever heard. Plant's voice was amazing back then, he *killed* the opening wail. That is one show I will never forget, LZ really brought the heat that night!

Oh yes, another one of these. This is widely known about in the circles of Zep for many many years. Spirit has known about it since the beginning, but Mr. California said many times something to the effect of "no big deal" or "let them have it." Now that he's gone it appears the other guy in Spirit is trying to cash in. Spirit has borrowed plenty of things in their career too, but they never had anything become all that big. A bit hypocritical. But it's interesting how these guys have waited all this time and are just now making something of it. (Jake Holmes had the easiest case in the world with Dazed & Confused and only came forth a few years ago). However, the Stairway sound is definitely there, no denying that. Actually, the song in question, Taurus, also obviously "influenced" Zep's In the Light, which no one ever talks about (cause it's not worth Spirit's time I guess). Here's another song that had some bearing on Stairway. Listen to the whole song and you'll see what I'm talking about. youtu.be/tWeejHJxGjsHow come no one ever sues John Williams? The guy is considered a modern genius for classical (pops) movie soundtracks, but when it comes down to it he's a master rip off artist (borrower). Almost everything the guy does is based from some other classical works other than his own. I guess that's considered legal in the classical pops world.

I agree Bonzo, I found this interesting because I was a Spirit fan in the 60s, they were another of the creative bands to come out of L.A. back then. I had their first three albums, I think Taurus is from the first, but it's been a long time since I've listened to it. However I was listening back then and never put the two together, now that I hear it again and knowing they toured together it does seem possible that Randy influenced Jimmy. I admired Randy California at the time because of the great tone he had (a Sears Silvertone I think), also one of the good early examples of multitrack guitar harmonies ("I Got a Line on You"). Even if there was an influence, it seems much too late to bring it up now.

Here's what was played at the interview in Paris yesterday. This is not for sound quality, just to hear some of the new track versions from the first 3 albums. youtu.be/Z8kWx088vSwDon't look at the poster's song list, it's wrong. I've corrected it here. 0:00 - 0:39 Good Times Bad Times (Live) 0:40 - 3:59 Communication Breakdown (Live) 4:00 - 6:41 You Shook Me (Alt) 6:42 - 11:05 Heartbreaker (Alt) 11:06 - 16:47 Whole Lotta Love (Alt) 16:48 - 22:05 Gallows Pole (Alt) 22:06 - 29:22 Since I've Been Loving You (Alt) 29:23 - 31:43 Immigrant Song (Alt) 31:44 - 35.57 Keys To The Highway (Alt)
