Anyway, I really do think Emotiva needs a statement amp. I have no doubt Emo could produce a state of the art amp that would compare favorably with anything else out there, at a lower price. I really believe Emotiva can produce a statement piece to compete with any brands out there regardless of price!! Emotiva already builds this "statement" amp. It's called an XPR-1. They can't afford to bring to market every conceivable amp design. I highly doubt ANY amp Emotiva makes in the future could top the performance numbers of the XPR series. Emotiva already builds fantastic amps regardless of the cost. The current Emotiva monoblocks surely satisfy the amp needs of 90%+ of the people in the market. Emotiva amps are already quiet as hell, powerful as hell, musical as hell, refined as hell and affordable as hell. What further possible AUDIBLE refinements do you really think you can do? Lower the already inaudibly low THD another .0003%? DItto.

Gathering what I am reading here, allot of dual chassis ideas, and some makes I saw. The Pass Labs, etc. Some one mentioned cost of shipping. Considering if the amplifier uses traditional design, it is going to be heavy. No 2 ways about that. You have a big transformer etc. A heavy chassis etc. Too. Unless you use one of the other topologies, this is going to weigh. Also a quality chassis, heavy steel, billet aluminum is not feather light. Both are expensive to make too.
So all that being said. One is assuming if you are looking at this kind of product, you understand it is going to be more expensive all around, expensive to ship, not even mentioning the limited economies of scale in production numbers. If this IS the statement product Emotiva makes, and I hope it really happens, many will say no, but a few may say yes. Flagships are the pinnacle of what a company can make. Anyway you look at it, it is going to cost, so be ready. Okay Lonnie, and big Dan, no holding back, I am betting this flagship will be exceptionally special. Merry Christmas to all here, and Emotiva Audio.

It's what would Lonnie create if money was no object? Would it be "better"? Depends on what better is. For some it's lighter or cheaper. Would it be pretty darn bad ass? Maybe even impractical? I absolutely vote YES! That's what makes it fun. The problem isn't the practicality of it.... It's the tiny niche market. A Lamborghini isn't a practical car. But I'm sure it's pretty fun to drive,,,

Probably 95% of the people who vote yes just want to be able to see what the product looks like but forking out the dough is a different story. Sort of like the little red hen.

Yeah, completely agree with you there. I'm guilty of the "Yes, I want to see it", but not sure I could fork out $6k (at least where I am right now).

I agree they may find them very expensive but they don't realize what a great value that both those products are . (F208 & XPR-5) And now that I added the XMC-1, I actually have to pinch myself just how good my system sounds. My system is based on very high value products. Those amps while looking great, I have to wonder how much better they would make my system sound. My guess is they would be better than my XPR-5 by a little bit. I guess I'm just too practical. Which is why monoblocks or these dual chassis doesn't really appeal to me but of course they can appeal to others who like the extra niceties. I agree with you. I honestly don't think any statement amp from emotiva or any other brand will not sounds much better than XPR series at any means. I'm more into that exotic form factor, best of the best, bragging right, etc I think. I just find a dual chassis amp too sexy and to resist. By the way, you have a heck of nice system. I've actually eyeing on F208 for a couple months. Everywhere I read, F208 was claimed the the best of its class!

Rubbish! We heard this stuff when the XPA-1 was the flagship. Nobody could understand why any sane person would buy anything more than it. Then guess what came out? There's always better! I'll concede sometimes, it's just a different flavor! But I can totally believe that their two chassis amp would be a complete knockout!

Looks like I'm being quoted a few times. Hooray, I feel special today!! All I'm saying is.. Lonnie said in his earlier post in this thread that he considers "... my ultimate expression of an amp it would be a dual chassis unit. One chassis for the power supply, the other for the amplifiers themselves. The power supply would be so over built that it would be impossible to suck it dry. The audio stages would have quad differential fully balanced input stages with cross linked current sources. Dual Darlington VAS stages, auto biasing and variable Class A drive ..." I hope he gets to build his ultimate expression of an amp sooner than later. I'm all for it! I'm not sure how much it will sound better than XPR or if the increased cost due to such an exotic form factors and purposely over-built specs will economically worth it to some of us or not. But, I'm sure it will be darn sexy and beautiful and sounds better than anything he had ever built - not considering the performance-to-price ratio. I don't think I can say it better than Jim said earlier: I don't think the debate is "will there be an audible benefit" or "what advantages are there?" It's what would Lonnie create if money was no object? Would it be "better"? Depends on what better is. For some it's lighter or cheaper. Would it be pretty darn bad ass? Maybe even impractical? I absolutely vote YES! That's what makes it fun. ... I'm kind of a person who usually search on online comparing prices before buying anything big or small. Clothing, for example, I can maybe count the ones I actually paid the regular price. But, there were those in my life that I just wanted to have regardless of a price and even if I had to pay a premium. Most of the time, they were totally worth it. I have a sense Lonnie's ultimate expression of an amp will be just THAT for me.

I've actually eyeing on F208 for a couple months. Everywhere I read, F208 was claimed the the best of its class! I do agree that having a dual chassis amp which are reserved for the most exotic of amps would be cool and definitely be bragging right material. And like I said, I'm not so closed minded to not understand different strokes for different folks. Thanks! I really wanted a pair of speakers that I wouldn't "outgrow" for a long time. And in listening to them side by side with the studio2 and how close they were in overall performance, it was an easy decision. And as every situation is different but if I had $6k to spend right now on audio, I'd be looking at two JL F113s as they would have a far greater overall impact on my system than the 6K amp. Btw, my F208 at home never sounded as good as what I heard when I auditioned them...until now. The XMC-1 was the final piece that got me over the hump and brought it all together. The room that had the F208 & studio2 had some very high end electronics that I wasn't able to match (close but not quite there). The point is our system is only as good as its weakest link. And I still have $5 cables vs. some exotic ones they had so cables don't matter. (Just a reminder

If I had the Revel Salon2, I would consider this dual chassis amp, otherwise I probably don't need to bother. There is no question there would be a group of people this amp would cater to. Certainly not me though...I can't buy an amp that costs more than my speaker. That's blasphemy .

Please excuse me if I jerk Nick's chain, with good humour of course. Perhaps Nick doesn't like the thought of his precious XPR-1's no longer being the top of the line Sorry mate, you've been out monoblocked Merry Xmas Gary

The high end amps designed with separated power supplies can give you 99.9% of monoblocks. Unless your in a large room with very large speakers spread far apart you don't need monoblocks if your short on space to get that sound quality. You desire. The main idea for monoblocks is a separate Beefy power supply with no channel crosstalk or channel back wash through the shared power supply that would degrade sound. A super high quality amp in the same chassis might outperform cheap monoblocks.

A nice large shared power supply may indeed do better!

I've never understood the "dual mono blocks in the same chassis" logic. Two power supplies, internally separated chassis, many have two power cords, twice as heavy, twice as bulky, no savings in anything. Except one thing, the "yes dear it's only one box" WAF. One advantage for so many disadvantages, it makes no sense, grow a pair and actually get the proper product not an excuse.
Just for clarification, not knocking true stereo amps, just those that pretend to be mono blocks.
Happy New Year Gary
